Hi. I just got my eyebrow pierced today, and I think I've already screwed up on cleaning it. I put Bacitracin on the entry and exit points, because my parents thought that was what we were supposed to do... But, on a website, I found this... "Avoid using petroleum-based ointments such as Neosporin or Bacitracin. These are not designed to use on new piercings and can cause complications with healing." So... could just one application of it mess up the healing process?

Try rubbing alcohol on a q-tip or wipe...it will burn like hell, but it will keep it germ free which is what you want.

Neosporin is not recommended for what they call "puncture wounds" When they manufacture it they make the *threads* in it longer so it stays on top of the skin rather than penetrating into it. Any petroleum product would work much the same way. Neosporin and Polysporin are excellent for cuts / burns. I use them extensively in my work. You can even apply Polysporin Ointment in the eye area and even if it goes directly in the eye theres no problem. You haven't created any problem by using that on your piercing. They probably just have another product they prefer to use.

One application shouldn't be an issue, but stop using it immediately.

All you need to do is sea salt soaks 2-3 times daily (1/8 tsp sea salt to 8 oz warm water). Use a shot glass to soak it, or dip sterile gauze in the solution and gently hold it on the piercing. Remove any build up with a cotton swab after the soak.

No, bacitracin is actually what the person who pierced my eyebrow told me use and I put it on like 1-2 times a day and my eyebrow healed in a week, the only reason it may cause problems is if you are allergic to any of it's ingredients, which you probably aren't. However if you are still too paranoid to use it go the the grocery store and buy sea salt, this is different from regular table salt, though it is used in cooking it also cleans piercings very well and it's safe to use on them, in fact when I got my nose pierced I was told to use sea salt to clean it and bacitracin to keep it lubricated to help it heal faster. Well I hope that helps you. :o)

I doubt that it will be ruined, after just one use. However, you should avoid it from now on. Use what you're supposed to use and don't worry. According to wikipedia, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eyebrow_piercing), istead of the healing time being six to eight weeks, it might be a couple weeks longer.

Good Luck, and Congratulations on your new piercing.

Put anaseptic or alcohol on it. It totally helps. Numbs and takes away pain!
