I won't be home to sign for it, so can I just leave a note asking him to leave the package?

It would work here in my small town. Shoot, he leaves it note or no note. It's great.

I thought it was kind of weird, but my husband was having something from Best Buy delivered and UPS actually called the house to say that they would be delivering a package the next day. I have never heard of that. I was not going to be home so I left a note stating that my mother in law lives next door and she was allowed to sign for us.

Yes,I spoke with my UPS driver and we have an uderstanding that if I am not there he will leave it in my back yard, but that is usually for things that I order on a consistant basis.
In the past I have gotten the "sorry we missed you slip", I have signed the back and that is usually good enough for the UPS driver unless it specifically says that you have to sign in person. In which case it will state this on the back of the slip that they leave on your door. I also know a few people that leaves notes on their door that say something like...."UPS, please packages in back porch" and then sign your name. Again, unless it's something very valuable this usually works.

Mostly everybody is Wrong!! I am a supervisor @ UPS...1st the driver has to attempt to deliver the pkg. if he is unsuccessful, then once you get home and see the infonotice the driver left, you can call the # to either arrange to pickup pkg that day or if you are not in a "high risk" theft area, you can sign the back of the notice to authorize the driver to leave the pkg there. Stick the notice on the door for the next day. But be aware that it is up to the drivers' discretion if he will leave the pkg...he will not leave a pkg that looks like its high value or if he feels that the area is not safe... Hope this helps..the # for UPS is 1800PICKUPS...press 0 @ the 1st prompt, then 0 again to reach a live operator!

UPS in this city leave packages all the time. They ring the doorbell and by the time you get to the door they are driving away. If you weren't here to hear the bell the package would be on the porch all day.

Actually, yes, Sign the notice that you leave and date it. Instruct him / her where to place the package for safe keeping until you can come home. Or, the driver will leave a notice, which you can sign and leave for him/ her indicating that they can leave the package at the door or wherever you instruct them to leave it

A lot of it depends upon the area in which you live, and the value of the package. If UPS has determined that you live in a "safe" neighborhood, they will leave the package. If the package has a value and requires a signature, they will not leave it.

Well, HotGirl, some of your employees aren't following the rules then. My dad has a sign he puts up for UPS and FedEx when he's sleeping (works nights) so he doesn't get disturbed in the middle of his sleep. It basically says "UPS/FedEx Please leave package in between doors" (screen door and house door). He hasn't had a problem yet.

Then again, he lives in a small town, so maybe that has something to do with it and the fact that he's done the note-thing for years now.

It depends on the driver, they most likely will even though they aren't supposed to but they are usually in a hurry to get their routes done because I have been home and had my packages just left on my front porch, although we live in the country but my guess is Yes.

I live in an apartment, and my neighbor downstairs does it all the time. It must work for her. But the problem is that there is a sign on her door letting anyone and everyone know she is not home. Can't be the safest idea in the world, depending on where you live.

If the package requires a signature, they will not leave it, even if you leave a note on the door.

They can only leave a package when the shipper authorizes it. Not the recipient.
