Take some classes at a community college or art studio. Stay away from any individuals you don't know who want to teach you. Also stay away from any photographers who want to take your photo. There are way too many creeps out there.

Photography is a great hobby for any age.

You don't need a professional level camera to get started or to enjoy photography. For now, use whatever camera you have, but learn its limitations. Know how close it will focus and how far the flash will reach, how to use whatever settings it may have.

Your school library probably has some books on beginning photography. They may even have a camera club you could join.

There are some good on-line tutorials. www.kodak.com, www.nyip.com, and others. Google photography tips and you should find quite a bit to get started learning.

Look at good photos and discover how they were made. Try to duplicate the look on your own. Learn about composition and lighting. Then practice. At this stage, a digicam may be more useful than a film camera. You can experiment all you want without having to pay for film and developing. People used to learn photography on a manual 35mm film body with a 50mm lens. Nothing wrong with that approach, either!

Have lots of fun!

I took a photography class (high school class) last year when I was 15 ... it's free and gives you experience without you having to even have a camera (the school has them). They'll teach you not only how to use a camera & all the technical stuff, but it'll teach you how to take better pictures. Before I took the class I was just kind of mildly interested in photography, now I'm going to major in it in college!

Save up your money for a camera ... they can be pretty expensive, though, so try asking for money for your birthday and christmas. Or if you have a rich grandma (or uncle) ask them for a camera!

A good film SLR (which is what I have now) can cost around $200-$400 ... my grandma had an old one she never used so she gave it to me ... so ask around. Once your family knows you're interested in and good at photography, you never know what might turn up!

Hey, I got into photography when I was your age. Best way to get better? Take more and more pictues. Keep at it. Look online at pictures, see ones you like, and try the same thing!
If you keep at it, and show your folks you really are into this (and it's a GREAT hobby/proffession).... you might just end up with a nicer camera for a holiday or your birthday!

Best of luck, have FUN!

just shoot everything...
camera does not matters...
it is you who take the shots that counts....
when you think the picture is good, that is enough...
always practice, always learn...
