I have cheeks so puffy I can look down and see them, they hurt, and I sneeze all the time, my head feels like it is going to explode.

Is this a sinus infection and if so is there some way at home to treat it?

Sure sounds like a sinus infection. Put a warm wash cloth on your face to help relieve the pressure. Get some shower soothers. They are large tablets that you place in the floor of your shower. As the water runs over it, it dissolves and the vapors WILL open your sinuses. I'm on my 2nd round of anti-biotics trying to get rid of my sinus infection. You still might have to go to the dr. There is also a natural nasal spray called similasan. You can use it as often as needed. It has helped me too. Good luck.

It very well could be a sinus infection. If you read my past answers, you'll see I'm not big on telling people to rush to the doctor. But in your case, I'm going to say that you need to get to a doctor. You really should go to an Urgent Care clinic in the morning to be checked out.

In the meantime, be sure you are drinking plenty of fluids, alternate between warm and cold. Run a cool mist humidifier in your bedroom, or place pots of water near the neat vents to help moisturize the air. Alternate putting a cold cloth, then a warm cloth over your sinuses on your forehead and right under your eyes. Sleep up on a couple pillows to help your sinuses drain. Have you tried taking a decongestant like sudafed? At this point, it may not help.

You don't say how long this has been going on. If it started with a cold, that is the cause of your sneezing too. However, if it's been ongoing and getting progressively worse, it may be due to an allergy which went into a sinus infection. Be sure you're not using a new detergent, new pillow, or anything else that could cause allergies.

See a doctor tomorrow. Good luck.

Try 2-3 ibuprofen every 3-4 hrs, saline nasal spray if you're stopped up, and some over the counter allergy/sinus preparations like Drixoral, Allegra or Claritin. Drixoral used to be a prescription medication years ago. Heat to your face will also help. Steamy showers will break it up. If it's a sinus infection, you shouldn't let it go on for very long and see your doctor. Facial infections can invade into other structures in the head.

It definitely sounds like a sinus infection to me. You could call your pharmacist and ask what they might recommend over the counter.

However I think you should see a doctor. You may have waited too long for an over tnhe countter remedy andprobably need an antibiotic now. Meanwhile try standing under a hot shower it might help to open the sinuses a little.

Usually when you have a sinus problem it's because your sinus passages are plugged up, blocked. The best way to unblock them is to heat some water, put a towel over your head and over the hot water and breath in. This clears them us and relieves the pressure. You can also use over the counter remedies, nasal sprays, etc. But I have always learned to use the method with the hot water and it really helps believe it or not.

I have several sinus infections in a year, and if the face hurts and is swollen it is probably an infection. The saline rinses are good, but won't sure an infection. I would see a doc.
