i own a repair shop and the most common cause for this is a dirty fuel filter,or a dirty air filter,one other thing also will cause this is a bad throttle position sensor,it makes the computer temporarily loose position of where the throttle is at,and cuts the gas supply off to it,but it will start right back up also,the check engine light should flash once in a while also,good luck with it,id have auto zone scan it for free,this way you,ll know,hope this helps.

Your best bet would be to have the guys at Auto Zone do a diagnostic check,especially if you have been seeing the check engine light coming on.Although there are several reasons as mentioned by others for this kind of stall/start condition.I have had the MAP Sensor act the same way.Stop guessing and get it checked out for free at Auto Zone.

Maybe a throttle position sensor, or low idle speed? Could be a couple of things, like fuel pressure regulator? Have a mechanic give you estimate, or go to AutoZone and ask one of the more experienced counter guys? Usually, the "parts sales managers" (the ones in gray shirts) have had experience in vehicle maintenance and repairs. Tell them Angela from store 1516 in Lewisville, TX sent you? Only if I'm right, tho!!! = }

A failing Vehicle Speed Sensor will make a Chrysler do this...the computer thinks the car is stopped, and tries to drop the RPM to idle. Watch your speedometer. If it's jumping around as you slow to a stop, or not working, this is a possible cause.

hi there! i'm a licensed mechanic with chrysler for more then 15 yrs...what causes this problem(most common problem with a 3.0 l) is the throttle body gets carboned up inside and the idle air control motor also gets carboned up causing low idle condition and a stall condition.
the best way to fix is to get a can of carburator cleaner spray, a throttle body gasket, and a old tooth brush, remove the throttle body from engine(this is the part the throttle linkage and air breather hose joins to) remove the two 13 mm nuts securing it to intake, the two 10mm bolts holding throttle linkage to throttle body, unplug the t.p.s. and a.i.s. wiring and remove from intake.
you will have to remove the a.i.s. motor from throttle body compleatly to do this repair best using a torax bit i believe size 25torax. then spray throttle body compleatly inside removing all signs of carbon build up and where ais motor was installed(ais motor is the round looking sensor on side of throttle body you removed with torax bit) clean ais motor also with the used toothbrush scrub it clean!
then reassemble in opposite of removal with new gasket installed and all wiring plugged back in. then its suggested to cycle ign. key three times before starting...this relearns ais positioning to the computer and then start it up!
i also suggest replacing the p.c.v. valve as this carbons up bad also. im sure this will fix your problem and all for about 20 dollars and some time.
other possible cause is fuel pump and vary rarely a distributor or coil malfunction. im sure this will solve your prob!

I wonder, does it have a lock-up torque convertor. I worked for many years at a Pontiac dealership and we had a lot of trouble with the 125c trans axles doing that. The torque convertor would not release when stopping, it was like stopping a manual trans car without mashing the clutch. A new torque convertor switch in the trans axle fixed the problem.

The idle is a bit too low set, or you have a vacuum leak.
