Religious tolerance, to me, means you agree to disagree. While one might not share the religious beliefs of another, he or she can still respect that person's right to believe and worship what or whom he or she chooses.

I support religious tolerance within reason. If someone is murdering a person or an animal for religious purposes or they are destroying something or hurting someone for the sake of their beliefs, I don't see the point of that and I am opposed to it. However, if someone wants to pray to Jesus, that's cool. If a woman wants to wear a head scarf because the Qur'an preaches modesty and she feels that is proper, more power to her. If a person wants to keep kosher because he's Jewish, fine. If someone wants to run in a circle 9 times and recite a chant honoring the seventeen moons of Kunga Delray, whatever, enjoy it.

"Do what ye will, an' it harm none."

It means I respect and support a person's right to believe anything they want to. Even if that belief is based on ancient superstitious myths for which there is no evidence, it's their right to believe what they want.

That does *not* mean, however, that I respect the beliefs themselves -- that's different. Superstitious beliefs for which there is no evidence of any kind, that have caused (and are still causing) more war, murder, violence, hatred, and bigotry than any other single philosophy in the history of the world are not worthy of respect. To that end I will try to educate people so they understand the false and dangerous nature of the beliefs they hold...but if they still want to hold them, that's their right and I support it.

It also means that no one religion gets preferential treatment by any government entity of any kind. No one religion or group of religions gets the government seal of approval or is promoted by government -- but all are allowed free exercise.

Peace.

It is being kind to those who believe differently than you. You don't have to believe it. You don't even have to like people in that religon, but you respect them. It is also about couter intolerance. Let me tell you a very spiritual story. People in the Mormon religon were beaten, raped, and killed in the 1830s and 1840s. They were forced out of their homes and forced to move west. They were not tolerated. But even though they were teated with such foul behavior, they did not go back and kill them and beat them. They tolerated their intolerance and terrible ungodliness. It's not just about tolerating other peoples religons, its about tolerating those that don't tolerate you. Respect, and "love those that hate you. Bless them that curse you."- Jesus Christ. God bless you. I hope you understand.

"religious tolerance" is akin to "true Christian"--a complete contradiction in terms.

To have a tolerant attitude towards other people of faith, which means that I'm secure enough in my faith to not attempt to convert other people to believe exactly as I do.

It means being free of the bible thumpers at college that hand out those stupid bibles and tell everyone they are going to hell. Free of Jehovah's witnesses that sell those stupid magazines. And teaching Xtians to keep their religion to their home and church.
