I have been serving in the Connecticut Army National Guard for 9+ years. It has been my experience that gay men are just as dedicated to their duties as straight people. I have met several gay and/or lesbians in the military. They have their personal lives, just like everyone else, but anyone who has been in the military (I'm sure) will agree that all the little indiscretions that are gossiped about, and the soldiers who are caught in sexual acts while on duty have always been the straights. I have yet to hear of any gay person in the military being discharged for sexual misconduct or indiscretion.
Just because a person is gay doesn't mean that they are "loose" or "flamboyant". I have been in foxholes with men on working occasions, as well as overnight duty, sharing a tent with a male buddy. I was a single girl at the time, that didn't mean that I felt a need to jump his bones, just because he was a guy. ANY, human being with a good work ethic, and dedication to duty, would never risk dishonorable discharge for a little sexual satisfaction. It's not worth it.

As long as he is shooting the same way I am and at the same enemy, and when the order comes to get up and get them he is running right there beside me, I have no problem with his sexual or bedroom habits.

I find that gay men and women are no different from hetero men and women. Both size up who they want to approach and are either rejected or accepted. Then they have to go from there. If rejected they normally move on to another person where they might be more successful.

I think that every American man and woman gay or not should serve their country one way or the other.

I hope this has been of some use to you, good luck.

Why are these questions in your head
You will find that most homophobic people are that way because they are trying to convince themselves and other people that they hate homosexual and cover up there attraction to the same sex
if you are comfortable with your own sexuality you are comfortable with other peoples
look at your question, could you find yourself next to a gay man for hours without sexual contact (suggesting it would be hard for you) or could you find yourself being made fun of for being next to a gay man (suggesting you care what other people think about your sexuality)
If you have these feelings be true to yourself.

My thoughts are that I'm sure that anyone (gay or straight) who would be trapped in a foxhole in the middle of a war zone would probably have something other than sex on their minds.

Are you attracted to everyone you see, meet and work with? What on earth makes you think that the gay man you are in the foxhole with would even be attracted to you in the first place?

I'm not gay. Been married 15 years and have four children and for the life of me, do not understand this "anti-gay" mentality.

There have been gay men in the military for as long as there's been a military.
what's the problem?
By the way, aloud means capable of being heard. I think you may have meant allowed. but that only speaks to your level of intelligence.

Sure, gay men should sing aloud all the time. The military would love to hear them shout aloud their love for life.

There are gay men and women in the military. I served with some. They do not rub it in your face that they are gay. Most are nice people who do their jobs, nothing wrong with them. I was in the U.S. Army for 4 years.

I didn't think there was any difference in the "loudness" between the two sexual orientations. Is one "louder" than the other? Which would that be, please?
