If you don't like them, just don't add them. It's a matter of personal taste. Your recipe won't fall apart if you leave them out.

You don't have to put them in. Most people do like onions, so if you're cooking for a group, you may want to cook to batches, or set aside some for yourself and add a little onion powder to everyone else's food. If you hate their texture, you can just use onion powder.

You might also want to try shallots. They're a little like onions, but they have a softer, more buttery taste. My cousins hate onions, so when I cook for them, I substitute shallots, and they don't mind at all. Leaving onions out of a dish won't hurt it. Now if you hated garlic, you might be doomed.

My son hates onions, so I have to leave them out of everything. Most things taste ok without them. Many times I will add onion salt or onion powder instead. I also have learned to dice them very, very tiny so that he doesn't notice. But if he even smells them, the gig is up, so I have to be extra sneaky.:)

If your recipe calls for onions and you like the flavor, use onion powder. That's what I use for the relatives that dont like onions.

If stir frying or making soup, instead of using onions to flavour, I use miso. Miso paste - Japanese fermented soybeans - can be found at high end grocery stores, and health food stores.
