My boss blows his own trumpet continuously at all times during the day. I shall furnish you with an example - (quote) "Ohhhh, I've done really well today and sold £xxxx worth of stock" and "The company would go down the pan if it wasn't for me here" etc. How can i diminish this trumpet blowing? I certainly wouldn't blow his trumpet, so maybe that's why he has to do it himself lol. It is very irritating though. I try to rubber ear him but it gets on my wick, especially first thing on a monday morning. Any suggestions?

"If a person is truly great, then nothing ever has to be said because others will already know it. It is the fool who must be constantly reminded of his greatness".

Teeheehee - what a marvelous opportunity to mess with his head and get sneaky.

As far as I can see there are only two reasons why your boss is behaving like that:

1)He's deeply, deeply insecure and lonely and does this to make himself feel better. So subtly undermine him. Point out that some of the sales were easy, that someone else set them up or that so-and-so did better (make sure you do this gradually, so as not to alert him to your devious plan). Next time he says that the company would collapse without him, say "Do you know, you're right. But you shouldn't waste yourself here, I saw a job in the paper last night that would be perfect for you - it's so high-flying". Give him a cut-out of a job that's so far out of his league that he wouldn't have a chance in Hell of getting it. Watch him flounder as he tries to come up with an excuse for not applying!

2) He fancies you and is showing off. Even easier, enact all of the above but do it with this in mind, and when he says something along those lines, make reference to his AGE and EXPERIENCE, so that he knows you think of him as an old git!

Hey Presto! One broken boss. What larks!!

Lol, i don't think the no-namer guy understands the question do you?! As far as this trumpet blowing is concerned, i'd remove the aforementioned article and smash him in the teeth with it. Ok, you can't do that, but have a word with him and tell him to stick a sock in it. I couldn't be bothered listening to that rattling on all day.

Tell your boss, that he has employed people for a reason. He may be the boss, but he needs a good team behind him in order to succeed in the task at hand.

He sounds like a K**b, just don't take any notice and get on with your job, and succeed in your own ways x

Sounds to me as if you are dealing with a very insecure person who needs constant reinforcement of his own worth. If that is the case, there's not much that you can do about it. You might try being two faced and sucking up to him. Tell him that he is such a great person, you just don't know how to express yourself when you are around him.

Oh, allow the boy his wind. It's the only thing keeping his sails up. You hit on it earlier in your statement. No one is going to pin a rose on him but his Momma, and she's hiding in the cellar with a bottle, burning his father in effigy.
You might wait til he's within earshot, then casually lean over to a co-worker and mention quietly that you heard that his stock went belly up, another Enron. Then pour yourself another cup of that swill that they 'say' is coffee at the office and enjoy your morning.;-)

First be thankful that you aren't married to the prat. Imagine how it would be--he would think himself a gift to the married world.
As far as work, I would try to remember he is either really proud of himself, or is terribly insecure.
If you can keep thinking "poor thing" it may help you put up with him.

bring him a cape, so he can be the super hero he thinks he is. then when he starts in again, you can say "do you want me to bring you your cape?" or "were you wearing your cape at the time?"

it might just be the sarcasm he needs to realize what he is doing.

have a nice day.
