Dogs don't have periods, it;s called a season or being in heat. It is the direct opposite of human periods. Please don't breed her anyway, there are too many unwanted dogs in the world to reproduce yours. italian greyhounds are in any case prone to broken legs (my brother has one and its cost him a fortune already - two broken legs) and shouldn't be bred.

You should wait until your dog is two years old to breed her and make sure you have a clear bill of health from your vet to do so. Depends on the dog.. some come in heat like clock work at six months, some maybe later. By a year old she should have had her first heat by now. I have a 13 year old Shih Tzu that has never came into heat. Wait a few weeks if she hasn't come into heat yet you may want to have her check out with your vet make sure everything is alright with her.

Between 5 and 14 months normally. NO not okay to breed her when she is only 1, You have to wait til she is at very least 2 years old. Health testing done, and worthy of breeding and you have deposits on at least 1/2 the litter in advance.

I think smaller dogs come into heat alot faster than little dogs. I have read that larger dogs dont come into heat until they are 11/2 to 2 years old. My 2 year old pomeranian went into her first heat when she was 5 months old. I dont think you can breed her until she goes into heat. Once they go into heat, there are only certain times during and after their heat they can get pregnant. My vet told me my dog should go through 2 heat cycles before I breed her. Or for a larger dog, wait until they are at least 2 years old.

She's still young, her period should be coming soon. Its different for every dog and it also depends on their size. My best advice is not to breed her at such a young age. She is not mentally mature for that, in fact the best time to breed her would be between 3 to 5 years. But i strongly recommend that you instead spay her since i am assuming you are not a dog breeder.

Usually it is roughly around 8 months. Have you spOKen to your vet? No it is not ok to breed her at that age. You need to wait until she is at least 2 years old, and you need to have blood work done, and hip xrays to determine whether she has dysplasia or not. These xrays cannot be done until she is 2 years old.
P.S. Hip Dysplasia Can be excruciating, and if mom, or dad have it, they will pass it on to puppies. Then often the puppies have to be put down. Hip dysplasia cannot be properly diagnosed until 2 years.
P.S.S. The dogs heats last 21-25 days, the first ten to twelve days she will not allow any male near her, nor to mount her. I think perhaps a visit to your library, and a chat with your vet could really help you get the answers you need.

She will have her period when it is time to have it you will never know when she will have until it happens. When she is on her period i would not breed her but when she is not on it then you can breed her. So be ready for when she does start then if you want to breed you can ask the vet if it is ok to breed during the time but i would wait until she is off the period that breed your dog.
