I leaning towards either camera.. but it bugs me that the xti is an 'improved' xt.. But they still sell both.. Is the XT still a legit prosumer camera? Will it give me similar results or will it be outdated soon? I'm a professional retoucher and looking into doing my own photography for artistic purposed.. Will the XT suit my needs? is the 'i' worth $200 bucks more??

Here's an in-depth review for the XTi.

On page one of this review they sum up all of the differences - the major differences being 10 megapixels vs. 8 (interesting if you print larger than 8x10 inches) and a better AF system (the same as in the more expensive 30D).
If you can do without these improvements, simply get the XT. It's still a very good camera.
As for the XT being outdated, things are still evolving rapidly. By next year the XTi will be replaced, too. But the XT and XTi will both continue to take great pictures for years to come.

XT is 8 MP XTi is 10 mp

XT is still a contender. $700 with lens.

OMG's got the best answer. I'll just add that I am running WindowsXP, even though Vista is available. I'm using Word 2003. Cameras are the same. What was "The Best" one year will be an also-ran the next, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be a dream camera for you.

Whether it's worth another $200 is something only you can answer.
