A good age is when they are mature enough to handle whatever might come up. I've known 20 year olds who were too immature for the job and I've seen 11 year olds who were like pros at it. Chronologically no 13 is not too young...but maturity wise...since I don't know the 13 year old I can't give an opinion.

13 isnt too young if the child is 3 or 4, but a newborn or an older child maybe too much for a 13 year old to handle. I wouldnt suggest letting anyone under 15 babysitting a child under the age of 3 or over the age of 4, because those are the times when children pull the power struggles.

I think that 13 is the perfect age to start babysitting. As when you are 13, you want to be more independant, and have a job, and make your own money. At least that how I felt. I started babysitting at the age of 13 also.

Depends on the child, my first born was watching her 3 much younger sisters for about an hour a day at the age of 12, however I have a 16 year old i won't let babysit unless it is in our home so i am here to over see.

13 is good. Im 15 and I have been babysitting since I was 13 but It depends on the individual like if they are responsible and it might also be a good idea for them to take a babysitting course before.

depends on the child. some are mature enough mentally to start younger, and some aren't mature enough to take care of kids when they get pregnant and have them. so it all depends on the maturity level of the child in question. in texas, 13 was the legal age. i'm not sure if that's national or not, i just know that i could start babysitting at 13, even though i'd been babysitting for family friends since i was 11. It was only for 2 hours or so, but my mom felt i was mature enough then.

I think 12 is a good age to start. There are babysitting courses kids can take.

I started babysitting when I was 12 yrs. old. I think it just depends on the maturity level of the individual, and the experience they've had with young children.
any pre-teen or teen who wants to babysit, needs to have a lot of knowledge, understanding, and experience gained while working with young children in the company of an adult before they try it on their own.
and when they're ready to step out and try it on their own, they need to have a list of all emergency numbers on hand at all times, know what to do if a child is choking, know CPR, etc.
Best Wishes
