Are you asking because you are comtemplating suicide? If so, you should seek help immediately. My guess is they would treat any patient the same - with concern and gentleness. I don't know about an attempted suicide ward - but my guess would be no. I've had a friend attempt suicide and she was held for 72 hours in a mental institution. This isn't anything to joke about - if you are really in a bad place, you need to seek help now. Your parents, friends, police, etc. will help you.

On an added note - do not take the time to research a facility if you are on the brink of attempting suicide. Just get yourself to some help - if you take extra time, you might pushing it for yourself especially if you feel like you can't turn back (which you can turn back and seek help, which is what you need to do now).

Yes they are called pysch ward and no the staff do not act hostile toward any patient. If they do they should be reported immediately. The staff are trained to assist every patient with whatever need they may have. I have worked the ER and have never seen any patient treated badly regardless of the circumstance.

A larger hospital would probably have a special ward for this. Most smaller hospitals would just put these patients in the mental health ward for close observation. Hospital staff vary no matter where you go. It depends if they're there to provide real, genuine care or to get the paycheck!

Most of the bigger hospitals do have a suicide ward. It is called a psyche ward. If you go there and tell them you tried to commit suicide, by law they have to admit you for 72 hours. They will call a sheriff to help them if need be. They can forcefully admit you ( meaning the sheriff can handcuff you and they can strap you down ) if you go and say you tried to hurt yourself or if you say that you think you might hurt yourself or someone else.
Once you are in the psyche ward, you are locked down just like you are in jail.
Only you are a lot safer in the psyche ward because most wards have nurses and doctors on duty at all times.

Staffs everywhere are pretty much overworked, especially, obviously, in larger urban areas--and surely in the mental health units.

. My advice in case you're on the brink of an attempt, is to first take the time to review and research the complaint levels re the hospitals in your area, and then choose the most compassionate one(s) :)))

Well they have psychiatric wards. And if you have attempted suicide you automatically get checked in and no they don't act hostile they have to follow procedures on how to handle them.
