666—Not Just a Puzzle

"Nobody might be able to buy or sell except a person having the mark, the name of the wild beast or the number of its name. Here is where wisdom comes in: Let the one that has intelligence calculate the number of the wild beast, for it is a man's number; and its number is six hundred and sixty-six."—Revelation 13:17, 18.

FEW Bible topics have evoked as much interest and concern as the prophecy about the mysterious mark, or name, of "the wild beast"—the number 666. On television and the Internet, as well as in movies, books, and magazines, the mark of the beast has been the focus of endless speculation.

Some believe that 666 is the mark of the Biblical antichrist. Others say that it signifies some form of compulsory identification, such as a tattoo or an implanted microchip with a digital code that identifies the person as a servant of the beast. Still others hold that 666 is the mark of the Catholic papacy. Substituting Roman numerals for the letters in a form of the pope's official title, Vicarius Filii Dei (Vicar of the Son of God), and manipulating the figures a little, they come up with 666. It is also claimed that the same number can be calculated from the Latin name of Roman Emperor Diocletian and from the Hebrew version of the name Nero Caesar.*

These fanciful and contrived interpretations, however, are very different from what the Bible itself says about the mark of the beast, as we shall see in the following article. The Bible does reveal that those with the mark will experience God's wrath when he brings an end to the present system of things.(Revelation 14:9-11; 19:20) Understanding the meaning of 666, therefore, is much more than just solving an intriguing puzzle. Happily, Jehovah God, the very personification of love and the Source of spiritual light, has not kept his servants in the dark on this important matter.—2 Timothy 3:16; 1 John 1:5; 4:8.

Identifying the Wild Beast and Its Mark

DO YOU enjoy solving a mystery? To do so, you look for clues that help you work your way toward the solution. In his inspired Word, God provides the needed clues with regard to the number 666, the name, or mark, of the wild beast of Revelation chapter 13.

In this article, we will look at four main lines of reasoning—vital clues—that will reveal the meaning of the mark of the beast. We will consider (1) how Bible names are sometimes chosen, (2) the identity of the wild beast, (3) what is meant by 666 being "a man's number," and (4) the significance of the number 6 and why it is written in triple digits, namely, 600 plus 60 plus 6, or 666.—Revelation 13:18.

Bible Names—More Than Just Labels

Bible names often have special significance, particularly when given by God. For example, because Abram would become the father of nations, God changed the patriarch's name to Abraham, meaning "Father of a Multitude." (Genesis 17:5) God told Joseph and Mary to call Mary's future child Jesus, which means "Jehovah Is Salvation." (Matthew 1:21; Luke 1:31) In harmony with that meaningful name, through Jesus' ministry and sacrificial death, Jehovah made possible our salvation.—John 3:16.

Accordingly, the God-given number-name 666 must symbolize what God sees as defining attributes of the beast. Naturally, to understand those traits, we need to identify the beast itself and learn about its activities.

The Beast Exposed

The Bible book of Daniel sheds much light on the meaning of symbolic beasts. Chapter 7 contains a vivid tableau of "four huge beasts"—a lion, a bear, a leopard, and a fearsome beast with big teeth of iron. (Daniel 7:2-7) Daniel tells us that these beasts represent "kings," or political kingdoms, that rule in succession over vast empires.—Daniel 7:17, 23.

Regarding the beast of Revelation 13:1, 2, The Interpreter's Dictionary of the Bible points out that it "combines in itself the joint characteristics of the four beasts of Daniel's vision . . . Accordingly, this first beast [of Revelation] represents the combined forces of all political rule opposed to God in the world." This observation is affirmed by Revelation 13:7, which says of the beast: "Authority was given it over every tribe and people and tongue and nation."*

Why does the Bible use beasts as symbols of human rulership? For at least two reasons. First, because of the beastly record of bloodshed that governments have accrued over the centuries. "War is one of the constants of history," wrote historians Will and Ariel Durant, "and has not diminished with civilization or democracy." How true that "man has dominated man to his injury"! (Ecclesiastes 8:9) The second reason is that "the dragon [Satan] gave to the beast its power and its throne and great authority." (Revelation 12:9; 13:2) Accordingly, human rulership is a product of the Devil, thus reflecting his beastly, dragonlike disposition.—John 8:44; Ephesians 6:12.

This does not mean, however, that every human ruler is a direct tool of Satan. Indeed, in one sense, human governments serve as "God's minister," giving structure to human society, without which chaos would rule. And some leaders have protected fundamental human rights, including the right to engage in true worship—something that Satan does not want. (Romans 13:3, 4; Ezr 7:11-27; Acts 13:7) Still, because of the Devil's influence, no human or human institution has ever been able to bring lasting peace and security to the people.# —John 12:31.

"A Human Number"

A third clue to the meaning of 666 lies in its being "a man's number," or as The Amplified Bible puts it, "a human number." This expression could not refer to an individual human, for Satan—not any man—has authority over the beast. (Luke 4:5, 6; 1 John 5:19; Revelation 13:2, 18) Rather, the beast's having "a human number," or mark, suggests that it is a human entity, not spirit or demon, and that it therefore manifests certain human traits. What might they be? The Bible answers, saying: "All [humans] have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23) The beast's having "a human number," therefore, indicates that governments reflect the fallen human condition, the mark of sin and imperfection.

History bears this out. "Every civilization that has ever existed has ultimately collapsed," said former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger. "History is a tale of efforts that failed, of aspirations that weren't realized . . . So, as a historian, one has to live with a sense of the inevitability of tragedy." Kissinger's honest appraisal testifies to this fundamental Bible truth: "To earthling man his way does not belong. It does not belong to man who is walking even to direct his step."—Jeremiah 10:23.

Now that we have identified the beast and discerned how God views it, we are in a position to examine the final part of our puzzle—the number six and why it is written in triple digits—that is, 666, or 600 plus 60 plus 6.


Six Repeated Three Times—Why?

In the Scriptures, certain numbers have symbolic significance. The number seven, for example, is often used to symbolize that which is complete, or perfect, in God's eyes. For instance, God's creative week comprises seven 'days,' or extended time periods, during which God completely accomplishes his creative purpose regarding the earth. (Genesis 1:3–2:3) God's "sayings" are like silver that has been "clarified seven times," thus perfectly refined. (Psalm 12:6; Proverbs 30:5, 6) The leper Naaman was told to bathe seven times in the Jordan River, after which he was completely healed.—2 Kings 5:10, 14.

Six is one short of seven. Would it not be a fitting symbol of something imperfect, or defective, in God's eyes? Yes, indeed! (1 Chronicles 20:6, 7) Moreover, six repeated three times, as 666, powerfully stresses that imperfection. That this is the correct view is supported by the fact that 666 is "a human number," as we have considered. Thus, the beast's record, its "human number," and the number 666 itself all point to one unmistakable conclusion—gross shortcoming and failure in the eyes of Jehovah.

The portrayal of the beast's deficiencies calls to mind what was said about King Belshazzar of ancient Babylon. Through Daniel, Jehovah said to that ruler: "You have been weighed in the balances and have been found deficient." That very night Belshazzar was killed, and the mighty Babylonian Empire fell. (Daniel 5:27, 30) Likewise, God's judgment of the political beast and of those with its mark spells the end of that entity and its supporters. In this instance, however, God will eradicate not just one political system but every vestige of human rule. (Daniel 2:44; Revelation 19:19, 20) How important, therefore, that we avoid having the deadly mark of the beast!

The Mark Identified

Immediately after disclosing the number 666, Revelation mentions 144,000 followers of the Lamb, Jesus Christ, who have his name and the name of his Father, Jehovah, written on their foreheads. These names identify the bearers as belonging to Jehovah and to his Son, about whom they proudly bear witness. Likewise, those having the mark of the beast proclaim their servitude to the beast. Thus, the mark, whether on the right hand or on the forehead, figuratively speaking, is a symbol that identifies its bearer as one who gives worshipful support to the beastlike political systems of the world. Those having the mark give to "Caesar" that which rightly belongs to God. (Luke 20:25; Revelation 13:4, 8; 14:1) How? By giving worshipful honor to the political state, its symbols, and its military might, to which they look for hope and salvation. Any worship that they render the true God is merely lip service.

In contrast, the Bible urges us: "Do not put your trust in nobles, nor in the son of earthling man, to whom no salvation belongs. His spirit goes out, he goes back to his ground; in that day his thoughts do perish." (Psalm 146:3, 4) Those who heed that wise counsel are not disillusioned when governments fail to deliver on their promises or when charismatic leaders fall from grace.—Proverbs 1:33.

This does not mean that true Christians sit back and do nothing about mankind's plight. On the contrary, they actively proclaim the one government that will solve mankind's problems—God's Kingdom, which they represent.—Matthew 24:14.

God's Kingdom—Mankind's Only Hope

When on earth, Jesus made God's Kingdom the main theme of his preaching. (Luke 4:43) In his model prayer, sometimes called the Lord's Prayer, Jesus taught his followers to pray for that Kingdom to come and for God's will to be done here on earth. (Matthew 6:9, 10) The Kingdom is a government that will rule over the entire earth, not from some earthly capital, but from heaven. Hence, Jesus called it "the kingdom of the heavens."—Matthew 11:12.

Who is better suited to be King of that Kingdom than Jesus Christ, the one who died for his future subjects? (Isaiah 9:6, 7; John 3:16) Soon this perfect Ruler, now a mighty spirit person, will hurl the beast, its kings, and its armies into "the fiery lake that burns with sulphur," a symbol of complete destruction. But that is not all. Jesus will also get rid of Satan, something that no human could ever do.—Revelation 11:15; 19:16, 19-21; 20:2, 10.

God's Kingdom will bring peace to all its obedient subjects. (Psalm 37:11, 29; 46:8, 9) Even sorrow, pain, and death will be no more. What a glorious prospect for those who remain free of the mark of the beast!—Revelation 21:3, 4.

Clues to the Meaning of 666

Bible names often say something about the bearer's traits or life, as in the case of Abraham, Jesus, and many others. Likewise, the beast's number-name encodes its characteristics.
In the Bible book of Daniel, the various beasts represent successive human kingdoms, or empires. The composite beast of Revelation 13:1, 2 symbolizes the worldwide political system, empowered and controlled by Satan.
The beast's having "a man's number," or "a human number," indicates that it is a human entity, not a demon. Hence, it reflects human failings resulting from sin and imperfection.
In God's eyes, the number six, being short of the Biblically complete, or perfect, seven, points to imperfection. The mark 666 emphasizes that deficiency by repeating the number three times.

‏«لا يقدر احد ان يشتري او يبيع إلا مَن له السمة، اسم الوحش او عدد اسمه. هنا دور الحكمة: من له ذكاء فليحسب عدد ‏الوحش، فإنه عدد انسان؛ وعدده ست مئة وستة وستون».‏‏ — كشف 13: 17، 18.‏

‎‎القليل‎‎‏ فقط من مواضيع الكتاب المقدس يثير اهتماما وقلقا كبيرَين كالنبوة التي تتحدث عن العدد 666، وهو ‏العدد الذي يمثِّل سمة «الوحش» الغامضة او اسمه المحيِّر. فعلى شاشات التلفزيون والسينما، وفي صفحات الإنترنت ‏والكتب والمجلات، اصبحت سمة الوحش موضوعا تدور حوله تخمينات لا نهاية لها.‏

يعتقد البعض ان العدد 666 هو سمة مَن يدعوه الكتاب المقدس ضد المسيح. ويقول آخرون ان هذا العدد يشير الى علامة ‏فارقة يُرغَم المرء على حملها، كالوشم او رقاقة صغرية تُزرَع في الجلد وتحمل شفرة رقمية تحدِّد هويته كخادم الوحش. ‏بالاضافة الى ذلك، هنالك مَن يعتقد ان 666 هو سمة البابوية الكاثوليكية. فإذا استُبدِلت الحروف في احدى صيَغ اللقب ‏الرسمي للبابا، ‏Vicarius Filii Dei‏ (نائب ابن الله)، بالارقام الرومانية وجرى القيام ببعض التعديلات، يمكن الوصول الى ‏العدد ‏‎666‎‏. كما يدّعي البعض انه يمكن ان نحسب العدد نفسه باستعمال الاسم اللاتيني للامبراطور الروماني ديوقليتيانُس ‏والتعبير العبراني الذي يقابل الاسم «نيرون القيصر».‏‏*‏

ان هذه التفسيرات الخيالية المبتكرة تختلف كثيرا عما يقوله الكتاب المقدس عن سمة الوحش، كما سنرى في ‏المقالة التالية‏. فالكتاب المقدس يُظهِر ان الذين يحملون هذه السمة سيحل عليهم غضب الله عندما يُنهي نظام الاشياء الحاضر. (كشف ‏‏14: 9-11؛ 19: 20) لذلك فإن فهم معنى العدد 666 يشمل اكثر بكثير من حلّ احجية مثيرة للاهتمام. ومن المفرِح ان ‏يهوه الله، مجسَّم المحبة ومصدر النور الروحي، لم يُبقِ خدامه في جهل لهذه المسألة المهمة. — 2 تيموثاوس 3: 16؛ ‏‏1 يوحنا 1: 5؛ 4: 8.‏

مَن هو الوحش وما هي سمته؟‏

‎‎هل‎‎‏ تستمتع بحلّ الأحاجي؟ عادة يبحث المرء عن مفاتيح تساعده على ايجاد الحلّ. وقد زوَّد الله في كلمته ‏الموحى بها المفاتيح اللازمة لحلّ احجية العدد 666، اسم او سمة الوحش التي يتحدث عنها سفر الكشف في الاصحاح 13.‏

الاسماء في الكتاب المقدس اكثر من مجرد ألقاب‏

غالبا ما تحمل الاسماء في الكتاب المقدس مغزى خصوصيا، ولا سيما حين تكون معطاة من الله. على سبيل المثال، غيَّر ‏الله اسم الاب الجليل ابرام الى ابراهيم، اسم يعني «ابا لجمهور»، لأنه كان سيصبح ابا لأمم كثيرة. (تكوين 17: 5) وأوصى ‏الله يوسف ومريم ان يطلقا الاسم يسوع، الذي يعني «يهوه خلاص»، على الطفل الذي كان سيولد لمريم. (متى 1: 21؛ لوقا ‏‏1: 31) وانسجاما مع معنى هذا الاسم، جعل يهوه خلاصنا ممكنا من خلال خدمة يسوع وموته الفدائي. — يوحنا 3: 16.‏

بناء على ذلك، لا بد ان يرمز الاسم المعطى من الله والممثَّل بالرقم 666 الى خصائص تميِّز الوحش من وجهة نظر الله. ‏ولنعرف هذه الخصائص، يلزم ان نحدد هوية الوحش ونعرف نشاطاته.‏

كشف هوية الوحش‏

يلقي سفر دانيال في الكتاب المقدس الضوء على ما تمثله الحيوانات الرمزية. فالاصحاح 7 يحتوي على صورة واضحة ‏‏‹لأربعة حيوانات عظيمة› او وحوش ضخمة، هي اسد ودب ونمر وحيوان مخيف له اسنان كبيرة من حديد. (دانيال 7: 2-‏‏7) ويخبرنا دانيال ان هذه الوحوش تمثِّل ‹ملوكا›، او ممالك سياسية، يتعاقبون في حكم امبراطوريات شاسعة. — دانيال 7: ‏‏17، 23.‏

ويذكر ‏‎‎قاموس المفسِّر للكتاب المقدس‏‎‎‏ (بالانكليزية) ان الوحش الذي تتحدث عنه كشف 13: 1، 2 «يجمع بين كل ‏خصائص الحيوانات الاربعة لرؤيا دانيال .‏ ‏.‏ ‏. بناء على ذلك، يمثِّل هذا الوحش الاول [للكشف] كامل الحكومات السياسية المعادية لله في العالم». وتؤكد كشف 13: 7 ‏هذه الفكرة. فهي تتحدث عن الوحش قائلة: «أُعطِي سلطة على ‏‎‎كل‎‎‏ قبيلة وشعب ولسان وأمة».‏‏*‏

لماذا يستخدم الكتاب المقدس الوحوش كرمز الى الحكم البشري؟ لسببين على الاقل. اولا، لأن الحكومات صنعت عبر ‏القرون سجلا وحشيا ملطخا بسفك الدم. كتب المؤرِّخان وِل وآرييل ديورانت: «الحرب هي احدى ثوابت التاريخ، ولم ‏تتناقص مع المدنية او الديموقراطية». فكم صحيحة هي الآية التي تقول: «يتسلط انسان على انسان لضرر نفسه»! (جامعة ‏‏8: 9) ثانيا، يقول الكتاب المقدس ان ‹التنين [اي الشيطان] اعطى الوحش قدرته وعرشه وسلطة عظيمة›. (كشف 12: 9؛ ‏‏13: 2) وهكذا، فإن الحكم البشري هو من صنع ابليس، ويعكس بالتالي ميوله الوحشية، ميول تنين. — يوحنا 8: 44؛ ‏افسس 6: 12.‏

ولكن لا يعني ذلك ان كل حاكم بشري هو اداة طيِّعة في يد الشيطان. فالحكومات البشرية تعمل بطريقة ما ‹كخادم لله›، اذ ‏تبعث الاستقرار في المجتمع البشري لكي لا تسود الفوضى. كما ان بعض القادة السياسيين يصونون الحقوق الاساسية ‏للانسان، بما فيها حق ممارسة العبادة النقية التي يعارضها الشيطان. (روما 13: 3، 4؛ عزرا 7: 11-27؛ اعمال 13: 7) ‏ومع ذلك، بسبب تأثير ابليس، لم يستطع ايّ انسان او مؤسسة بشرية ان تجلب للناس سلاما وأمنا دائمين.‏‏#‏‏ — يوحنا 12: 31.‏

‏«عدد بشري»‏
والمفتاح الثالث لفهم معنى العدد 666 هو انه «عدد انسان»، او «عدد بشري» بحسب ‏‎‎الكتاب المقدس الموسَّع‏‎‎‏ ‏‏(بالانكليزية). لا يمكن ان تشير هذه العبارة الى انسان ما، لأن الشيطان، وليس ايّ انسان، هو مَن له سلطة على الوحش. ‏‏(لوقا 4: 5، 6؛ 1 يوحنا 5: 19؛ كشف 13: 2، 18) كما ان الوحش يحمل سمة او ‹عددا بشريا›، الامر الذي يشير الى ‏انه من طبيعة بشرية لا روحانية او شيطانية، ويُظهِر بالتالي خصائص بشرية معينة. فما هي هذه الخصائص؟ يجيب ‏الكتاب المقدس: «جميع [البشر] اخطأوا وقصَّروا عن بلوغ مجد الله». (روما 3: 23) اذًا، كون الوحش يحمل ‹عددا بشريا› ‏يشير الى ان الحكومات تعكس الحالة البشرية المنحطة الموسومة بالخطية والنقص.‏

ويشهد التاريخ على صحة ذلك. قال وزير الخارجية الاميركي السابق هنري كيسنجر: ‹كل حضارة وُجدت في وقت ما ‏انهارت في النهاية. والتاريخ هو حكاية جهود فشلت، طموحات لم تتحقق. لذلك، كمؤرخ، يجب على المرء ان يعيش مع ‏شعور بحتمية المأساة›. ان التقييم الصادق الذي ذكره كيسنجر يؤكد حقيقة اساسية في الكتاب المقدس: «ليس للانسان ‏طريقه. ليس لإنسان يمشي ان يهدي خطواته». — ارميا 10: 23.‏

الآن وقد حدّدنا هوية الوحش وعرفنا نظرة الله اليه، لنتأمل في الجزء الاخير من احجيتنا: العدد 6 وسبب تكراره ثلاث ‏مرات، اي 666.‏

لِمَ يُكرَّر ثلاث مرات؟‏

في الاسفار المقدسة، تحمل بعض الاعداد معنى رمزيا. على سبيل المثال، غالبا ما يُستخدَم العدد سبعة رمزا الى ما هو تام ‏او كامل من وجهة نظر الله. فالاسبوع الخلقي، مثلا، يتألف من سبعة ‹ايام›، او فترات زمنية طويلة، ينجز الله خلالها ‏‎‎بشكل كامل‏‎‎‏ قصده الخلقي المتعلق بالارض. (تكوين 1: 3-2: 3) ويشبَّه ‹كلام› الله بفضة «ممحوصة سبع ‏مرات»، اي مصفّاة ‏‎‎كاملا.‏‎‎‏ (مزمور 12: 6؛ امثال 30: 5، 6) وقد طُلِب من نعمان الابرص ان يغتسل في نهر ‏الاردن سبع مرات، فشُفي تماما. — 2 ملوك 5: 10، 14.‏

ان العدد ستة هو اقل من العدد سبعة بواحد. أفلا يكون رمزا ملائما الى ما هو ناقص في عيني الله؟ نعم، بالتأكيد! (1 أخبار ‏الايام 20: 6، 7) علاوة على ذلك، ان تكرار العدد ستة ثلاث مرات، اي 666، يشدِّد بقوة على هذا النقص. وما يدعم هذه ‏الفكرة هو كون العدد 666 ‹عددا بشريا›، كما رأينا. وهكذا، فإن السجل الذي صنعه الوحش، ‹عدده البشري›، والعدد 666 ‏تشير جميعا بشكل لا يقبل الجدل الى النقص الجسيم والفشل الذريع من وجهة نظر يهوه.‏

ان الاشارة الى النقص الذي يتصف به الوحش تذكِّرنا بما قيل عن بيلشاصر، ملك بابل القديمة. فقد قال له يهوه بواسطة ‏دانيال: «وُزنتَ بالموازين فوُجدتَ ناقصا». وفي تلك الليلة بالذات، قُتِل بيلشاصر وسقطت الامبراطورية البابلية العظيمة. ‏‏(دانيال 5: 27، 30) وبشكل مماثل، ان دينونة الله على الوحش السياسي والذين يحملون سمته تعني نهاية هذا الوحش ‏وجميع مؤيديه. لكنَّ الله لن يستأصل آنذاك مجرد نظام سياسي واحد، بل سيمحو كل اثر للحكم البشري. (دانيال 2: 44؛ ‏كشف 19: 19، 20) اذًا، كم هو مهم ان نتجنب حَمْل سمة الوحش المميتة!‏

ماهية السمة‏

بعد التحدث عن العدد 666، يشير سفر الكشف مباشرة الى أتباع الحَمَل يسوع المسيح الـ 144,000 الذين لهم اسمه واسم ‏ابيه مكتوبا على جباههم. وهذان الاسمان يحددان هوية حامليهما كأشخاص ينتمون الى الشخصيتين اللتين يشهدون عنهما ‏بفخر، يهوه وابنه. وبصورة مماثلة، يعلن حاملو سمة الوحش خضوعهم لهذا الوحش. وهكذا فإن السمة، سواء على اليد ‏اليمنى او على الجبهة، هي مجازيا رمز يحدد هوية حاملها كشخص يؤيِّد الى حد العبادة انظمة العالم السياسية المشبهة ‏بوحش. كما ان الذين يحملون السمة يعطون «لقيصر» ما هو بالصواب لله. (لوقا 20: 25؛ كشف 13: 4، 8؛ 14: 1) ‏كيف؟ بمنح الاكرام الى حد العبادة للدول السياسية ورموزها وقوتها العسكرية، متَّكلين على هذه الدول لمنحهم الرجاء ‏والخلاص. وكل عبادة يقدِّمونها للاله الحقيقي هي مجرد كلام.‏

بالتباين مع ذلك، يحضّنا الكتاب المقدس: «لا تتكلوا على الرؤساء ولا على ابن آدم حيث لا خلاص عنده. تخرج روحه ‏فيعود الى ترابه. في ذلك اليوم نفسه تهلك افكاره». (مزمور 146: 3، 4) فالذين يصغون الى هذه المشورة الحكيمة لا ‏يخيبون عندما تفشل الحكومات في الوفاء بوعودها، او حين يفقد القادة اللامعون حظوتهم. — امثال 1: 33.‏

لا يعني ذلك ان المسيحيين الحقيقيين يقفون مكتوفي الايدي ازاء بلية الجنس البشري. فهم ينادون بنشاط بالحكومة الوحيدة ‏التي ستحل مشاكل الجنس البشري، ملكوت الله الذي يمثِّلونه. — متى 24: 14.‏

سيكون حكم يسوع المسيح للارض حكما كاملا‏
ملكوت الله هو الرجاء الوحيد للجنس البشري‏

عندما كان يسوع على الارض، جعل ملكوت الله المحور الرئيسي لكرازته. (لوقا 4: 43) وفي الصلاة النموذجية، التي ‏تُدعى احيانا الصلاة الربانية، علّم يسوع اتباعه ان يطلبوا اتيان هذا الملكوت وإتمام مشيئة الله هنا على الارض. (متى 6: ‏‏9، 10) وبما ان الملكوت حكومة ستحكم الارض بكاملها من السماء وليس من عاصمة ارضية، فقد دعاها يسوع «ملكوت ‏السموات». — متى 11: 12.‏

ومَن هو مؤهل ليكون ملك هذا الملكوت اكثر من يسوع المسيح الذي مات من اجل رعاياه المقبلين؟! (اشعياء 9: 6، 7؛ ‏يوحنا 3: 16) ان هذا الحاكم الكامل، الذي هو الآن شخص روحاني قوي، سيطرح الوحش وملوكه وجيوشه في «بحيرة ‏النار المتقدة بالكبريت» التي ترمز الى الفناء التام. ولن ينتهي الامر عند هذا الحد. فسيبيد يسوع الشيطان ايضا، الامر الذي ‏يعجز ايّ انسان عن القيام به. — كشف 11: 15؛ 19: 16، 19-21؛ 20: 2، 10.‏

وسيجلب ملكوت الله السلام لجميع رعاياه الطائعين. (مزمور 37: 11، 29؛ 46: 8، 9) ولا يكون حزن ولا وجع ولا ‏موت في ما بعد. فيا لَلرجاء المجيد الذي ينعم به الذين يمتنعون عن حَمْل سمة الوحش! — كشف 21: 3، 4.‏

مفاتيح لفهم مغزى العدد 666‏

غالبا ما تكشف اسماء الكتاب المقدس شيئا عن صفات حامليها او حياتهم، كما في حالة ابراهيم ويسوع وآخرين كثيرين. ‏وبشكل مماثل، يرمز اسم الوحش الممثل بالعدد 666 الى خصائصه.‏
في سفر دانيال، تمثِّل الحيوانات المختلفة ممالك او امبراطوريات بشرية متعاقبة. ويرمز الوحش المركَّب للكشف 13: 1، 2 ‏الى النظام السياسي العالمي الذي يمنحه الشيطان السلطة ويسيطر عليه.‏
يدل حَمْل الوحش «عدد انسان» او ‹عددا بشريا› على كونه من طبيعة بشرية لا شيطانية. ولذلك يعكس هذا الوحش الفشل ‏البشري الناجم عن الخطية والنقص.‏
العدد ستة هو اقل بواحد من العدد سبعة التام او الكامل بحسب الكتاب المقدس. لذلك فهو يشير الى النقص من وجهة نظر ‏الله. ويُكرَّر العدد ستة ثلاث مرات في السمة 666 تشديدا على هذا النقص.‏

"An Encounter with a Minister
About seven years ago, I had a minister over to my home. In the particular room which we were sitting there was a Qur'an on the table, face down, and so the minister was not aware of which book it was. In the midst of a discussion, I pointed to the Qur'an and said, "I have confidence in that book." Looking at the Qur'an but not knowing which book it was, he replied, "Well, I tell you, if that book is not the Bible, it was written by a man!" In response to his statement, I said, "Let me tell you something about what is in that book." And in just three to four minutes, I related to him a few things contained in the Qur'an. After just those three or four minutes, he completely changed his position and declared, "You are right. A man did not write that book. The Devil wrote it!" Indeed, possessing such an attitude is very unfortunate - for many reasons. For one thing, it is a very quick and cheap excuse. It is an instant exit out of an uncomfortable situation.

As a matter of fact, there is a famous story in the Bible that mentions how one day some of the Jews were witnesses when Jesus (pbuh) raised a man from the dead. The man had been dead for four days, and when Jesus arrived, he simply said, "Get up!" and the man arose and walked away. At such a sight, some of the Jews who were watching said disbelievingly, "This is the Devil. The Devil helped him!" Now this story is rehearsed very often in churches all over the world, and people cry big tears over it, saying, "Oh, if I had been there, I would not have been as stupid as the Jews!" Yet, ironically, these people do exactly what the Jews did when in just three minutes you show them only a small part of the Qur'an and all they can say is, "Oh, the Devil did it. The devil wrote that book!" Because they are truly backed into a corner and have no other viable answer, they resort to the quickest and cheapest excuse available. None at all. It appears in Revelations, the last book of the New Testament in the Christian Bible, and refers to "the mark of the beast." Revelations dealt with eschatology, or the study of the end times and judgement. There were a number of these writings, which were often political rants heavily disguised for safety's sake rather than being the religious treatises and prophecies that they appear to be on the surface.
