I never heard anyone curse in Church, though Catholics are sinners like everyone else, and some may have such a bad habit. The Mass is the most intimate interaction with God that is possible on this earth. Jesus become physically present to us, and as if that were not enough, becomes physically part of us in the Most Holy Eucharist. The consecration of the Mass is a moment of heaven on earth. There is nothing human beings can do that is more important or more fulfilling than this. Which is why Christ commanded "do THIS in remembrance of Me". Catholics have obeyed that divine mandate ever since, and will do so until the end of time.

I have been raised Catholic my whole life...As a child I grew up getting in trouble for cursing, in grade school as many of my Catholic friends would curse, yes it was easy to pick up on, however with prayer I was able to see even more so how it is wrong.
As for falling asleep in mass, the more and more I learn about the faith, the more I am drawn to the mass. I would not consider going to mass to be a waste of time, more I would consider not going to church a waste of time. Catholics believe that Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist, and everyday we celebrate the Holy Eucharist which is the same sacrifice the Christ offered on the cross in Calvary. Without the Eucharist, I am nothing.
If you are looking for a short read on the mass and different parts, I would suggest a book called "Jesus Our Eucharistic Love" by Fr. Stefano M. Manelli, FI

I'm a Catholic. I certainly do not think that church is a waste of time. If I did, I wouldn't be there. Church, to me, is a very sacred experience, and I look forward to it. It's a retreat from the mundane world, and a chance to engage my spirituality. If I feel sleepy in church, it's because I may have gotten off a work shift before going to Mass. As for cursing, I'll plead guilty to that, but of course, not in the church building itself. I'm a college student. Occasionally, I've been known to utter a few less than polite phrases while cramming for exams.

How do you fall asleep in a catholic mass??? It's like a religious aerobics class sit, stand kneel, sit, stand, kneel . I was raised Catholic and by the time I was in my teens going to church involved my getting dragged there. But yes it gets really repetitive and boring, I've watched mass on TV and can at points go right along with it.

That could've just been your view of the Catholic service.

The celebration of traditional Catholic mass is a bit stoic. There's a lot of repetition....I was raised Catholic and hadn't gone to mass in probably 10-12 years and oddly enough when I finally went back to mass, I still remembered when to kneel, stand, sit and what the unison responses were.

I thought to myself...do I even know what I'm reciting? What do these words mean? Am I just one of hundreds in this cathedral uttering the same words at the same time eac week?

Yes, I was. I was getting much out of the mass because I wasn't putting anything in to it. I was going to Mass out of some sense of duty..obligation....something instilled in me by Sister Mary Katherine who that if I didn't go to Mass I was doomed to eternal damnation.

I think there are many other disenfranchized Catholics out there who feel as I do.

And there are scads of practicing Catholics who don't.

As a non Catholic--unfamiliar with ritual, dogma and practice, it may seem to you as though Catholics don't enjoy mass or seem to be getting "into it" . No they don't speak in tongues...roll around on the floor....have a Nehru wearing jacketed guy with slicked back comb-over that would make Donald trumpo jealous rid them of evil spirits by smacking them on the foreheads and having them collaspe into the arms of some suit-wearing heavies who look a lot like Elvis' old Memphis Mafia.

Don't judge from one experience at one church. People are always going to believe differently from you.

Try another Catholic church. Be open and receptive.

In other words, be more Christian-like.

You have not been to my Church. I am a Catholic and we love the Lord at my Church. What exactly do you want to see happening with this poisonous post?

I don't, but I know some people do. That's not unique to Catholicism though, it happens in protestant churches too. I would guess it happens to some degree in all faiths, but I can't say for sure
