So many things! Its best to see the doctor about this if its a recurring event.
It could be diabetes, thyroid disorders, hypoglemia, anorexia, inappropriate use of prescription, OTC, natural, or recreational drugs, anemia, narcolepsy, epilepsy, depression, bipolar disorder, hypoadrenal disorders, the list goes on and on! There are even some rare diseases associated with this, but the names of them escape my memory....
Go to the doc!

They are either a teenager...where this is fairly normal or it's possible they feel they have nothing to get up for and are feeling depressed.
Also the longer you lay in bed the more tired and lethargic you can feel so it can set up a vicious circle.

That could be any number of things. A sinus infection, motion sickness, the flu, simple exhaustion, a neuroligical problem like epilepsy or multiple schlerosis, improper diet, etc. etc.
If the problem persists, see a doctor.

Illnesses such as mono can cause excessive sleeping. If someone is sleeping that much they should have a check up with their doctor.

Fatigue or lethargy is one symptom of many diseases. I would need additional information to figure out exactly what is wrong. Could be a vitamin deficiency or it could be an immune problem. Check it out if it is unusual for you. Or, someone may just be very tired one day.
