Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is a catch-all term used by many animal welfare organizations. They mainly focus on removing animals from abusive situations and getting them into safer situations through shelter and adoption. The various SPCA's are not necessarily organized with one another. The SPCA should not be confused with the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) which is a national organization based in New York.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is the largest animal rights organization. PETA's slogan is, "animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, or use for entertainment." Basically, they are extremists when compared to the various SPCA's around and considered to be a terrorist group by many due to their use of illegal tactics, (destroying private property, etc.) to get their point across.

PETA are absolutely nuts. they believe that animals should be in their "natural state" without human help running wild. That we shouldn't keep them as pets, feed them, etc. If you are an animal lover you can see some flaws in this logic, first of all dogs like Chihuahuas running around next to Mastiffs.(Chihuahuas were actually bred in Mexico as nothing more than just a lap dog, seriously. They used them like heating pads for sore joints and muscle ache and if you've ever had cramps and had a chihuahua you would know why). SPCA= society for the prevention of cruelty to animals. They pretty much raise money and advocate for animals in a more reasonable and less crazy way than PETA.

the difference is the spca is that the spca is a humane organization who gets animals out of a bad situation and trys to find them loving homes, peta is a group of people who are against people wearing fur (which I'am against that)and eating meat and stuff like that. (i'm not a fan of meat but i don't put people down who do like it).

SPCA is about preventing cruelty, & they really focus on pets, like in the regular citizenship, preventing persons from harming animals or having them in a harmful situation.

PETA is a private group, a non-profit, yes, with volunteers & relying heavily on donations, but they set their own rules as to what they find tolerable or "ethical treatment" & are just on looking out for animals of all kinds in all situations, & so choose to work & lobby against things like fur, using sheep wool, eating meat, etc. & they can use (within what is legal in this country), their own ideas & slogans & advertising as to how to achieve getting their message across; they do not answer to anyone but themselves & the law of the land.

the SPCA has very strict guidelines on what they can & cannot do, is more of a public service, like the police, in fact, in NYC SPCA officers ARE trained & armed police officers. they are a little more limited in how much they can protect animals, & what animals they deal with, & they, for instance, cannot put out stuff about how bad it is to wear fur or eat meat, or act on it. they do not interfere with personal choice until it is something that breaks a law, local or state or federal, & could or is harming an animal.

PETA can raise hell about any idea or practice they want any time they want; there is no "we only get involved if a law is broken" restriction on them.

PETA are a radical group of vegetarians who think they way of living is the right and only way to live. They believe that no human should consume meat of any kind. Now dog are meat eaters so they are on the top of their list to try to get ride of. They are nuts!!!
SPCA is a organization of people who treat and rehabilitate lost or homeless dogs and find them new homes. they also provide health care to dogs also. They are good guys.

The SPCA runs shelters for unwanted animals and tries to find them homes.
PETA believes that no animal should be in shelters OR in homes. They believe no animal should be kept as pets, PERIOD.
PETA is made up of a bunch of hypocrites.
