If every illegal were to get amnesty with history showing any amnesty only encourages further illegal immigration and more amnesties will be called for. Any guest worker program will result in future people overstaying them and again another amnesty will be called for. How many amnesties can America afford to give ?

I agree, give an inch and they will take a mile.

BTW vegaswoman ... you are WRONG!! Various bills with an "amnesty provision" have been proposed, and several are under consideration by our government as I type this! If by definition of "amnesty" we mean a path from illegal alien to citizen of the US!

Logically, we need to reaim the fight! (not calling for complete surrender to the alien invaders, just talking logically here) The several million criminal invaders of this country (read as "illigal aliens" or "undocumented workers", or even "leaches on our society" if you want), seriously outnumber the combined forces of Law Enforcement (several hundred thousand at best), given that these people have higher priorities, (rape, murder, gang activity, etc).

We must (to survive) adjust our thinking! Deport the worst, habitual offenders, felons, etc) and create a porthole to citizenship for the "best" (those who speak English (or are trying to learn), Contributing to society (not draining it), and are generally crime free (to get along, you must adapt!).

I know, what have you done with "ornery and mean" and who are you? I'm just adapting my thinking, learning, whatever!

At a heavy metal concert (or Mardi Gras (is the spelling close?), or a situation like "Woodstock" do the police try to arrest every offender? NO! When outnumbered 1,000 to 1 they adjust their thinking! Get the "worst" (the ones who are creating a problem) and let the least offensive slide!

We should focus our attention on the worst of the illegals, deport them , imprision them ... whatever is appropraite, but those who want to get along? ... Let them slide!

Amnesty alone is not the answer. However, alternative solutions (wall/fence, increased border patrols) are illogical and will ultimately be expensive and ineffective. Nor would it be even remotely possible to "round-up" and deport illegal aliens. Amnesty and a guest worker program are a good start that will help get the situation under control.

However, there is another aspect of illegal immigration that is neglected. The reason illegal immigrants enter the U.S. is because it is so easy for them to find jobs. Where we really need to crack down is on individuals and companies that employ illegal aliens. If the jobs are not available to illegals, they won't come. Well...at least slow it significantly as there are reasons other than work for immigrants wanting to come to the U.S.

Hell no! We should not import other nation's poverty. As you stated, any amnesty only encourages further illegal immigration. The United States must not grant illegal immigrants a pathway to citizenship – amnesty by whatever name.

Rather, the U.S. goverment should work with other nations to develop their economy so that those nations can be independent, and the people enjoy the fruits of their labor in their own country.

NO WAY! Amnesty is an open invitation to more illegals to come here to get into the next amnesty. It can only worsen a bad situation.

Amnesty would only encourage more illegals to come. We cannot afford any more amnesty situations with the illegals.

the govt thinks it's going to solve the illegal immigration problem and it's not. it's just adding more fire to the fuel. bush gives amnesty to the ones here. they will have their family members come in illegal and they will wait out for the next amnesty.

it might be part of the answer..

because it is not ONLY illigal mexicans here...
there is also italians, french, irishs, portuguese, germans, brazilians, and other nations... and most of them are loyal workers that actually know or try to learn english...

so the amnesty might mean that not all the mexicans with be legal... most of them will probably not even hear about it...

also i think they should build a wall big enough to keep them from coming here illegally..

this nation was build of immigrants... there was ALWAYS immigrants coming here..

i read something a person wrote saying something like "they might do the work that americans don't want to, but they were done by somebody before they got here"
think about it... there were always immigrants coming here and doing those jobs...

so yes... it might be the answer...

I don't like the idea of always giving amnesty, but how else can we really fix this problem?

#1 we must get control of our borders once and for all.
If that means building walls, fences and using the National guard, then do whatever it takes

#2 Then we deal with the illegals already here.
You have the problem of separating families made up of illegals and their children born here and legals living here with illegals as part of the family.
I say give the illegals 90 days to fess up (I mean sign in, get your correct name on file, address and who employed by).
Then anyone caught after the 90 days are up, if they have issues like children born here, throw them in jail long term. Put their kids in foster care just like any legal citizen who broke the law. If they don't have any issues, deport them once, if they sneak in again, throw them in jail also.
Enroll the one's who fess up as the start of a new migrant workers program.

#3 Start taking in more migrant workers if they are needed.

If you don't give amnesty to deal with family situations mentioned, you will never get any bill passed to deal with the problem.

Reagan tried amnesty in 1986 at look at the mess we have now. It only encourages more illegals, more social problems and higher costs to U.S. taxpayers.

amnesty wont even begin to solve the problem. i suggest firing squads (someone else mentioned it and these "people" are agents of a foreign government aka spies) and land mines.
