a sgt and a tec5 are two differnt ranks

Actually the spec5 and above was phased out. It's now Spec4 then into the NCO ranks as a SGT E-5. Although the E-4 rank can be either a Spec4 or a Corpreal.

A technician, a specialist (which the rank was later called), with the seniority and pay of a regular sergeant, but not the leadership role. At the time that was reserved to combat arms soldiers.

the army doesnt use tech... sargent e-5 was a 3 stripe sargent. today they still have them.. they also have spec4's ,spec5's and so on
