I’m no analog expert – but to get rid of the snap, crackle, pop - need to clean your records, and remove the static electricity. There are several commercially available products to do both. The Disc Doctor is just one website that has Vinyl products.

If your turntable is properly set up - it will not ruin records.

Strongly suggest you contact your local audiophile club. They will show you how to correctly preserve your collection and a club member may just do it for enjoyment.

The computer part is easy – just need a good Sound Card.

There is software that will assist you in preserving your Vinyl. I’ve enjoyed Audio Cleaning Lab for years. You should begin with correcting your records / turntable problems first.

I hope you realize your 100’s of records are valuable. Don’t ruin them.

You can put a vast amount of audio on a writeable DVD disk. You must connect your turntable through a high quality preamplifier to your computer. You may have to buy appropriate cables to go from the preamp to computer. Many good preamps will have settings to reduce Snap, Crackle, and Pop. (This makes me want to go have a bowl of Rice Krispies.)

Depending on your hardware and software configurations of your computer, you may have many choices for recording audio with various trade offs on compression vs. audio quality.
