It depends on how old you are. If your like 13 or 14 then you could mow lawns in the summer. Thats what I do!!!!

Did your parents tell you that if you want a $400 dog you would have to pay for it yourself? Just remember, the dog may cost $400, but, the shots and heartworm testing and pills and flea stuff altogether will cost you at least another $100 or more. Than, you would want to microchip the dog. That brings the total to well over $500. Next, you will need to research which food is best for the dog, buy leash, collar and other things. So, it's not $400 you need to earn. And, each year you will need to pay for the shots and heartworm meds and Frontline or something along that order for fleas. If you are adamant that this is the kind of dog you have to have, check the internet, because there are rescue organizations that deal only with pedigree dogs, and you can get them a lot more reasonable, plus, they've probably already had their shots and meds. You don't say how old you are, so it's kind of hard to tell you what you could do to earn the money. Check with your school. Sometimes they "hire" students to clean the school during the summer. Go to the library and see if they have any jobs (like reading to small children). You could do yard work, babysit, wash cars, clean garages or basements. Again, depending on how old you are, the list is endless.

You need a lot more than $400

If you want a puppy hopefully it will have the first vaccines already and should be 8 weeks or older before you take home

This is how much you need just for the first 6 months of ownership

puppy $400
crate $ 60
food $180
10 week vaccine
and deworming $100
14 week vaccine
and rabies $100
neutering $200
toys, shampoo
dishes, bed, brushes
nail clippers, and other
care needs $150
________
sub total roughly $1300

if a breed that needs
grooming a hair cut every
3 months $ 80
emergency money set
aside in case the
dog get sick or hurt $500
________

Grand total $1880 so roughly $2000 for the first 6 months after the first 6 months the costs usually get smaller as long as the dog has no serious health problems, roughly $600 a year with food and general health care.

A lot of people do not save enough first and end up having their puppy die or have to get rid of it because they can not afford to care for it

It might sound harsh but, don't get a dog. If you can't even afford the dog itself, how are you going to pay for quality dog food ($30 per week), a dog bed ($70), training classes ($120), vaccinations (x3 = $60 each), emergency vet visits ($400 - $3000+), boarding fees ($10 per day), leash and collar ($20), food bowl ($15) and many, MANY other expenses that dogs cost.

When you think about all of the expenses, times how long a dog lives (10-15+ years), the dog is the cheap part.

If you can get a part-time job/s at the nearest fast-food joint, or gas station, or shelter, I think you would be able to save up $400 in no time, depends on how many you take.

If you have a talent like singing or dancing, get a job at a club or bar. Or if you paint, sell artwork

Or you can tutor little kids or babysit.

Haul out your stuff and set up a garage sale! While you're at it, ask your mom to bake cookies or cupcakes you can sell at your garage sale.

Try dog-walking, lawnmowing, carwash, and other odd jobs.

Or, tell your mom you can do xtra chores for more money! Moms are so nice, I bt she'd give you more than you asked for.

if you dont even have 400 dollars you shouldnt get a dog. im sory but there is the care, the food supply, the time, and everything. you have to have alot of time to dedicate and after you buy them you wont be done spending. there is health care, food and lots of expenses. if you are underage and live with an adult make a deal with them that you will care for them if they will pay for them, or you will pay 200 dollars and care for the dog. its a big responsibilaty.

You don't - you go to your local shelter and give a home to an unwanted dog that might otherwise be euthanized. However, you will still need money to feed the dog and pay the vet's bills, so get a job first.

Get a job and save up. People don't just decide to go out and get a dog. It takes alot of time and money to care for an animal. You have to give them affection, buy it food, take it to the vet for checkups and shots, ect.

Can't really tell you how to make money, don't know anything about you, most of us get jobs. But please remember, animals are expensive well after the initial cost of obtaining the animal; food, vet bills, etc. Take that into consideration, if you can't afford to give an animal proper care throughout its life, you shouldn't have one.
