Well congratulations, that is a major acheivement. my boyfriend just did his first year of no smoking too...so I understand how well you've done. Sure the weight gain is a pain, but you will lose it...don't focus on it as a negative because you've done something so positive and will have ultimately gained more than weight...extra years of life and a better quality one too!

If you can have the self disipline to give up a chemically addiictive drug like nicotine, you'll be strong enough to put yourself on a healthy diet. So don't panic that you'll never shift it.

It's simple really...eat less...exercise more. No great secret!

If you've eaten more because you want something to do with you hands...try a hobby, like knitting, or doodling..or whatever, but if its a handd thing...occupy them.

If it's that the fags used to suppress you're appitite, maybe look into eating more substantial foods, like porridge for breakfast and a jacket potatoe for lunch. If you want to snack, pre pack healthy snack bag with carrots and raisens or nuts to have with you.

And with your new lung capacity...why not enjoy a sport. Take up squash or jogging with an I.pod. Enjoy feeling well and not out of breath.

These are all really simple tips and if you go to a gym, or book store or even google..you'll find diet and health plans. But the main thing is, you did the hard part...the rest you can manage.

Good luck!

i got news for you my friend quiting smoking did not make you gain weight...smoking does not suppress appetite it is a stimulant the reason you believe you gained weight because of smoking is because since we were young we always heard quiting smoking makes you fat it is a lie that was told way back in the day when Hollywood starlets swore that's how they kept slim...when in actuality they were all hopped up on deximil which was a diet pill you are a victim of a huge conspiracy which was hatched in like the 40s

Watch what you eat, and exercise properly. Almost everyone gains weight when they quit smoking, including me. I think it is partly becuase I substituted food for the smokes, and partly because food started tasting so much better.

One of the biggest things in loosing weight is how and what you eat.

Try eating healthy/low fat foods
Always have breakfast as this makes your matabolisum stronger which will burn the food faster... also eat smaller portportions but more times a day. (this increases matabolisum also)

Hope you get what i am saying lol... good luck.

Diet and Exercise. There just isn't a magical solution, unfortunately.

You could stop eating the junk you replaced the cigarettes with.

Add exercise to your life.
