eww gross. No, it's not a good idea because of contaimination from the litter straight to the food. Would you eat next to where your poo is sitting in the toilet?

There shouldn't be a problem, but keep it some distance. They may track some of the litter on their paws, and step in their dish (my cat steps in his all the time) and track that into the bowl. Then again, they lick themselves all the time and don't get sick. Just clean it regulary. If the cats don't use the box or don't eat, I guess they think that the box and food are too close for comfort.

Keep the box and the food/water dish a good ways apart from each other. Cat's have an extremely sensitive nose and if they have any sort of litter dust, or the smell of feces/urine. They'll refuse to eat and possibly vice versa. Try keeping your boxes in the bathroom, and the food/water dishes in the kitchen or bathroom.

It's alright, but I wouldn't do that because when cats use the litter box, they spread sand EVERYWHERE. It'll get in their food and stuff. So perhaps you should place the litter box in a laundry room and their food in the kitchen. Good luck!

It's not that it isn't okay, but it's not really pleasant to the cat. Cats have a very sensitive sense of smell, would you want to eat next to your toilet? Plus, if it is a clay litter, there is a dust factor; please find another spot for food and litter box.

My wife, the cat lady, says the litterbox should be at least five feet from the food!!
Also I wouldn't use any litter but the kind that clumps. Much easier to deal with!!!

Put the new litterbox where you had the old litterbox. This way when the cat has to go it doesn't have to look for it and get used to it being in a new place.

Do you eat where you go to the bathroom? Neither should your cat. Treat your cat humanely and you wil have a loving companion for a long time.
