Are you are talking about the current US/IRAQ war? Or the encompassing Global War on Terrorism?

If you are talking about the war on Terrorism, then when the planes struck the towers, pentagon, and field in PA, there was a huge release of unpermitted VOCs, harmful dusts, asbestos and PCB residues, and many other harmful particulates.

The debris had to be remediated, and removed to landfills.

It had a huge impact on USA and world society.

Fortunately, most of the environmental damage has been contained. Although, there are emergency responders that have suffered ill health affects and will likely continue to do so until there deaths.

If you mean the current USA/IRAQ war, the nasty insurgents are creating miniature environmental disasters everytime they blow up a car or plant an IED.

The newly found cache of Chlorine gas cylinders would not have been a nice thing to have had released in a major population center as it would have killed many people and thus contributed to nasty diseases.

Ultimately though, the USA society has changed it's tenor since 9/11 as we have lost our intestional fortitude to end this conflict in a quick and painless manner.

For whatever reasons, politicians with agendas not in the best interest of the soldier, environment or their impact on society have made this conflict the arena to propugate their personal political agenda.
