I want to lose weight fast, but I'm worried I'm too large to run.

I was 263 pounds, I started out walking which I could only do 7 mins then turned around and came home. But I went back out the next day.

One day it started to rain and a lady shouted from her door "I don't think your going to make it home" she was right so I began running home trying to make it before the heavy rain.

I was too embarrassed to run at 263 pounds but to her it seemed like the only natural thing to do that day and I have not stopped since. I am now 151 pounds and enjoy running 4-6 miles at a time.

Best of luck !

Start off walking and add some jogging each day.

I do not recommend running as an exercise to start out with. It is hard on your joints and will make you more prone to injury. Brisk walking is an effective exercise to lose weight.... use some light weights as well and you will really see some weight loss! BTW, losing weight fast is never a healthy idea. Aim for 2-3 lbs a week. You will however notice more than that to start off with because a significant amount of weight loss in the beginning is water weight. Good luck!!

I am a "large" person too. 283 pounds.
But I am also a strength trainer, 21 years.
I do daily jumping jacks for aerobics.
Really gets the heart pumping.
I do 100 jumping jacks a day.

No, you are not too large to run. Just run, get tired, pause and rest, run some more, get tired, pause, etc. Stretch out the running and run every other day in the beginning.

If you're just starting out, I suggest walking briskly instead of running. Running is high intensity for anyone just starting out. It's been found that brisk walks are nearly as effective as jogging. As you progress and feel up to it, you can combine running in your walks for a short ways. Eventually, you should be able to run the entire distance. Just keep to reasonable distances.

I've seen it too often where people hit it too hard starting out and aren't able to stick with a routine because it's too hard, or worse yet, they become injured. This is why you want to ease into it and give your body time to adjust to the new stresses and build up as you go.

Start with walking or swimming. They are better for you joints. You will not have as many injuries and can work out longer. You can go to running after you loose some weight,

i recently lost about 30lbs in about 3months. i did it by being very dedicated and motivated. think about why you want to lose weght and repeat that to yourself when your workout becomes difficult. i would start out with swimming. its an excercise that doesnt feel like your working. thats a big thing, pick something that you find entertaining/fun that way you dont feel the pain until the next day. for me i went boogie bording and roller blading. good luck.
