I was curious as to whether or not anyone had any information or resources they could point me toward in direction on how to set up a billboard. Like the kind on the side of the highway? Do you have to own the land, do you need permission from the state........?

Bill boards can be a source of income if you have a good high traffic location. If you don't own the land you must negotiate a lease from the owner.

The big companies that have several locations generally have their own print shops. You should arrange printing with a local company before you finish building the sign so you can make your board a normal size. You may need to hunt for an experienced shop for this. Outside advertising requires a different printing process than other mediums.

Think about how you will get the boards covered with the advertising. Will you hang the posters or will you hire the work done?

Or will you just build the sign and then lease the space to one of the large companies for them to service themselves?

Good luck.

If you look in the corner of most billboards, they will have the name of the advertising company (like Lamar) and you can go to their website for more info. Sometimes, you will see a number to call if that billboard isn't being used.

Here, try http://lamaroutdoor.com

Those billboards are usually on private property. Billboard companies rent the land.

If you are looking to get on the state right of way, you will have to check with your state.
