What are St. Paul and francis saints OF?

Anyone who dies and goes to heaven is a saint. Some saints are remembered as canonized saints. This means they did something special during their life time and are given special recognition. Saints like St. Francis, Peter, the Blessed Mother, Mary are canonized saints. Sometimes certain devotions are given to certain saints. St. Francis is the saint of ecology and many other things. St. Jude is the saint of hopeless causes.

When Paul wrote his letters to different churches, he addressed the to "the saints" at those churches. Saints are Christians actually, believers, not some special extra holy demi-gods who have special powers. If you're a believer you're a saint. We all need to be like "St. Paul".

Some are Patron Saints of certain things in relation to their deeds in life. St. Francis of Assisi is the patron saint of animals for instance.

In catholicism there are saints that are so called because they have done something over and above the call of duty. In Christianity in general, all born again people are called saints.

Saints are members of the body of Christ. That is Christians in general. Sainthood is generally a doctorine of the Catholic church. I don't think they got the whole "Saint" thing right.

yes like saint such and such is the saint of desparate cases. you pray to the saint of something to help you with the particular area they 'spealize' in, if you will.

Catholics have a saint for everything---skinned knees, burnt pudding, flat tires, you know. They do also have one for travelers,Christopher.
