I work at a doggie daycare. The groomer bathes the dogs twice with dawn antibacteriel dish soap and then once with pet shamppo. Is this bad for the dogs?

I'm a groomer, and ocassionally use Dawn on very oily grungy coats. Like cocker spaniel ears...

Dawn is harsh on the skin it should be followed up with a skin conditioner and rinsed well if it really needs to be used to get a very dirty coat clean.
Its harsh and drying on our hands and the same for a dogs skin. If used on certain dogs it can cause itchy dry skin.

Its not dangerous in any way, but like I said before it is a very harsh detergent and certainly shouldnt be used on every dog.
***Especially dogs that are on Advantage and topical flea controls because 'it stripps the hair / coat of all oils on the dog including the flea prevenative.***
Then people wonder why the dog still has fleas...even though they keep them on flea prevenative!
You can not use a stripping shampoo such as Dawn with topical flea products!!!

For me, its a great degreaser shampoo and good to lather up and let sit for a few minutes, if the dog already has fleas.

Again, NO it shouldnt be used on all dogs.

***By the way***
Any shampoo will kill fleas, if its lathered up on the dog and let sit for about 5-10 minutes because fleas, like all insects breath through their skin and the shampoo suffocates the fleas.

Well, our dog trainer says that you shouldn't bath a dog more than once every two weeks. It washes the natural oils out of their coats. So yes, it sounds like your groomer is overdoing it on an extreme basis! Have any customers complained? Can you have a word with the daycare owner?

Dish soap is fine for shampooing a dog. It kills fleas. But don't know why it's done twice. Maybe she follows with the dog shampoo as a type of conditioning.

i don't think it is a good idea to bathe the dogs in dawn dish soap. because it can be harmful to their skin and may dry it out. i think the best option is to use dog shampoo.

NO its ok. I think 2 times with the dawn is a bit much but she's probably trying to make sure they have no fleas.
