Get a vocal teacher. you can teach yourself to sing but that can only take you so far. you need a teacher so you learn to not strain your vocal cords. you don't want to damage your voice.

It depends on what type of music you want to sing and how good you want to be. If you want to be an opera star, then you'll probably need lessons. If you just want to sing along with the pop songs radio, then you may not need lessons.

If you're interested in choral music, you can join a choir; you won't need individual lessons since singing in a group is different than singing solo.

Well, on Amazon.com, I found a DVD Learn to Sing Like a Star, by Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul.
http://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Voice-Coach-Learn-Sing/dp/B0007VW2AI/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/102-2148458-2813724?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1174783814&sr=8-2

Try searching amazon for books and movies. Type in "Learn to sing" and lots of items will come up.

I'd also check your local libary under the music section, which is in between the 700's and 800's according to the Dewey Decimal System (and yes, EVERY library goes by that)

Good luck!
