Can you give us a semi religious / pseudo-Christian scientific explanation for these catastrophes?

Are they natural or supernatural? Or is everything supernatural?

dj , how can it be neither? It sounds like YOU can't decide whether they are natural are supernatural.

Satan is NOT a creator. Original Sin may have been a catalyst, but God SAYS that those things are all under His control. He creates them.

Neither...
God created the universe and all the Laws that govern it. Natural occurences such as earthquakes, tornadeos, floods, typhons, etc. are all part of the 'Natural Laws' that govern the physical plane. If you believe that God created all this than, in a way, everything is supernatural. If you do not believe that a Higher Being at least had some sort of 'hand' in the creation of the universe, than everything is natural. It is up to you to decide for yourself.

I would have to say no on the original Sin idea... Original Sin is predominately a Catholic belief. Its the idea that everyone is born of sin because sex is a sin no matter what th context. It just so happens that "god" look more kindly on marital sex if and only if it is used to conceive...thankful, Catholic I am not.

You could say that Satan created them...in theory... as Satan often approached God with various trials and temptations that he could throw at mankind to prove that men were not sincerely loyal to God. This was much the case in the story of Job. The Devil believed that if Job no longer had the blessings of God, he would lose faith and turn away. So in a winding sense, you could say that Tornadoes and other natural catastrophes are the work of Satan trying to prove that mankind is unworthy of the Lords love.

As far as I understand the bible, I'm pretty sure God takes care of all of those "natural disasters". However, I'm able to believe in God and the scientific explanations for these things, so I know that tornadoes occur with the right temperature and atmospheric conditions, and earthquakes are just tectonic plates sliding against one another.

Some Christians believe that the earth itself was in a chaotic state before the "days" of Genesis. In the second verse of Genesis Chapter 1 it says "And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep."

Something occurred as a result of Satan's rebellion that caused the earth to be imperfect. What we read in Genesis is not a creation account but a restoration of the earth account. This is known as the Gap Theory.

Reasoning along these lines one could say that Satan had a hand in deforming the original earth, as well as participating in the fall of man.

I believe both, original sin may have given authority over to Satan. Job is a clear story were Satan was the one causing the tornado or great wind that destroyed Job's family.

These first of all ARE "NOT" acts of God like the insurance folks say, when mankind first sinned it was as it were pulling the plug on life, and death is the natural what happens next both to mankind and this planet and everything on it, yes satan/sin causes these things, if you read the account of Job, you will see satan causes lots of things and then blames God for his nasty stuff. Genesis 1:17And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;
Sin caused God to create problems such as tornadoes and earthquakes.
Earthquakes-

in short the earths crust is made up of shifting plates when they rub against each other or the crust breaks their are earthquakes.
Tornadoes

The three key conditions required for thunderstorms to form are:
• Moisture in the lower to mid levels of the atmosphere.
• Unstable air. That is, air that will continue rising once it begins rising from near the ground.
• A lifting force. Something is needed to cause the air to begin rising. The most common lifting force is heating of air near the ground. As the air warms it becomes lighter and begins rising. Advancing masses of cool air, which force warm air upward, also trigger thunderstorms.
When all the conditions are present, humid air will rise high into the sky and cool and condense into towering clouds, forming thunderstorms. This air rising into a thunderstorm is called an updraft. Tornadoes form in within a thunderstorm's updraft.
The strongest tornadoes are often near the edge of the updraft, not far from where air is descending in a downdraft caused by the thunderstorms with falling rain or hail. This is why a burst of heavy rain or hail sometimes announces a tornado's arrival.

When man sinned the whole world was tainted. We all suffer illness and grief. We all endure hardships and natural disasters. It is original sin that made the world as chaotic as it is.

It is God's grace that allowed so much beauty to remain.

Neither. They are called "acts of God" for a reason: they are part of God's Creation.

We don't get hit with natural disasters because we're bad. We get hit with natural disasters because we are mortal and not all-powerful. So I guess in that sense you could say it was original sin, which got us kicked out of the garden and subject to the whims of the world.
