I have recently bought a PlayStation 3 (Europe Model) and i also own a HD TV (Philips). I have connected these two together with the HDMI cable and have a perfect picture however there is no sound.

I have followed the PS3 instructions on how to make the HDMI cable work with both sound and picture, but the same error message re-apears:

"This HDMI device cannot be used for audio output"

I've tryed changing HDMI cables twice and the same message apears again.

Please, anyone with any ideas or infomation on this problem, i would love your help very much.

Thanks.

I have the same problem with a Samsung DVD Player and an LG 42 inch HD Plasma.
The problem is that you are trying to Stream Digital Audio through the HDMI and that isn't possible. Switch off "Bit Stream" output for audio and it should be OK or do as I have and connect up and use a 5.1 amp and switch off the "on screen messages"!
