Hey guys I know this might sound like a stupid question but I'm only 15 so I'm kind of new to this whole credit card thing.

I have a check card and I plan on ordering an MP3 player online for a set amount of money. However, I'm not sure if I have that much money in the account because I haven't used it in a while.

So my question is if I accidentally overcharge it by $15 or so, what will happen?

You could easily get charged a fee of $25 or more, why not just call the credit card company and find out how much you have the phone # should be on the card

It will be like writing a bad check if you haven't told the bank you want purchases to be denied if the balance would overdraft your account in advance. So, you'd be charged something like $35 to $44 extra on top of the purchase for the overdraft and state laws require you to get your balance out of the red within two weeks usually. So, don't do it or you might have a bigger bill than expected along with a fine and possible jail time if you don't get the account out of the red (negative balance).

If this is just a prepaid card, not a Visa or MasterCard logo debit card attached to a checking account, it will be declined. I have never seen a prepaid card allow the user to go over the amount left on it.

If it is a Visa/MasterCard logo debit card, attached to a checking account, it may or may not be declined. If the charge is allowed, you will be overdrawn at the bank, just as if you wrote a check for more money than you had in your account. You will get charged overdraft fees that your bank allows.

There no Jail time for going over with your debit card in the U.S.
You will get an overdraft charge on your account if it goes through and the overdraft charge is $25 or above depending on your bank.

Intentionally writing bad check is a crime but going over on a debit card is not a crime. The reason is not a crime is because the bank could of denied that transaction. .

You will have overdraft charges. These are sometimes around $40. Most cards allow you to pay more than the credit limit, up to 10% more I think. So make a deposit to that card before you make your purchase or call the bank where you have your card (prior to the purchase) to see if they will allow you the extra funds to make your purchase. All they can do is to say "No." Good credit is as asset!!
