Protestant pastors do not have the authority to forbid their church members from visiting certain websites. All they can do is to suggest what they feel is best, according to the teachings in the Bible. As a protestant Christian, I cannot fathom why my own pastor would discourage me from viewing a Catholic website. Most pastors have themselves viewed many religious sources of many different religions, in preparation for sermons etc., and Catholic websites are no exception.

Ex-Jehovah's Witness here who is now Catholic:

The JW's are vehemently anti-Catholic. I don't think it gets any worse then them. They absolutely FORBID any of their members to visit other churches, especially the Catholic Church. They teach that Catholics are of the devil and that you risk demonic possession if you go into a Catholic Church. Sounds ridiculous but this is no joke. I thank God everyday my family left that cult.

I'm presbyterian and we've never been told not to visit any website. I personally have no interest in visiting a catholic website though, the catholic church is very strict about them being the only true religion, we aren't even allowed to take communion in their church. Our church is open to all christians, and communion is offered to any who believe in Christ as the messiah.

I don't believe making statues of saints and praying to them is anywhere in the bible, considering the fact that only God knows who's truly a saint, He doesn't ask the pope to make that decision for Him. The very nerve of any human telling God who's a saint and who isn't is beyond me. Biblical? I don't think so. I have nothing against catholics, I actually love attending the catholic services, they're very reverential, which I really like. Gotta draw the line at bowing and praying to man-made saints though.

I have never hear of any pastor telling his congregation not of visit any religious website. However, having a website, and claiming the Bible for sources of doctrinal beliefs does not make it factual. There is an awful lot of catholic doctrine that does not have scriptural support.

Our Presbyterian pastor doesn't forbid it. After being told by a Catholic that my church "doesn't count" however, I don't really have an interest in it.

Protestants have a long standing rivalry for 'rightness' with the Catholic church,

They are jealous of the ancientness.

They are pastors, they aren't your dad, and you aren't their children. Why would any minister forbid someone from doing anything??

If they are, get out of that church.

They may however warn against it.
