They're both the the same age, race and sex. You know nothing else about them

I would save the Christian. The Christian has a much better chance of living his/her life to bring others to the Lord. The atheist at his/her current stage of life hasn't done anything positive for their own eternal salvation and thus the likely hood of them assisting anyone else to salvation is slim to none. One must play an odds game and the odds are in the Christians favor.

This would be hard. if I had no idea where the Christian is in his\her life, than how would you know if that person was actually going to go to heaven if they should die.
Also, in a situation like this, when two people are drowning, I highly doubt you'll be thinking about if they know Jesus or not- THEIR DROWNING!!!!
In that case, I'd probably try to save the one who's closer no matter which one it happens to be and then try my heart out to save the other one. If most likely that second person should die, I would feel responsible both ways.
However, if it was the Christian who died, there would be the hope of that person living with God.

The atheist. Maybe I'm crazy, but the Christian already knows they're going to Heaven...

The atheist would not be. After I saved them, I'd tell them about God, and Jesus...and let them make what they could of it. If they became a Christian, good for them...if not, at least they'd know that not all Christians hate anyone who isn't Christian.

At least, that's what I would do.

I'd save the atheist. If he's alive, there's still a chance that he may repent and accept Christ as his Savior. If he's dead, there's no further hope for his salvation. The Christian is safe with God, whether he lives or dies.

Interestingly enough, this is pretty much what happened to John Newton, the former slave trader and the man who wrote the words to "Amazing Grace." He was shipwrecked, and another shipwrecked passenger, a Christian, spent the last moments of his life preaching to Newton.

Newton was saved thanks to the drowning man's words and went on to become a powerful Christian.

Simple. Save the Atheist. The Christian has already been saved!

Obviously I would save the atheist. The Christian would be going to Heaven, whereas the atheist's soul is at stake.

It would be better to save the atheist, who still has a chance of being saved and going to heaven. The Christian is already assured of heaven.

If I saw two people drowning religious preference wouldn't matter...I'd pray for help as I dived in and try to save them both.

If I saw two people drowning, I wouldn't sit around asking if they were christian or not before trying to save them. Whoever was easier to get to would get saved.

I think this is not a good question. I would go in after which ever I could get to . And hopefully help them both together they were both created by God/ One just does not realize it but God loves him too.
