can you tell me what is different? can I use both of them for cooking/baking? so far I only use baking soda for cleaning drain and keep odor away. and if I use this do I have to know something special? can I make bread with it like yeast? thanks in advance.

Baking powder, is "double reacting". It reacts and rises first with moisture. It reacts a second time and rises with heat.

Baking soda only reacts when exposed to an alkali, or acid. This is called a single reaction.

I'd keep the baking soda for cooking. If you want to get rid of odors better, than use charcoal.
There are different types and some just work alot better. I have the perfect product that I've used for years and know dozens of other people that use it. It is a product called FRIDGE IT odor absorbers. It is a little purple cube with an incredible activated carbon filter inside that is really, really, great. It works so much better than baking soda and all those sprays and fragrances that just cover up smells and doesn't get rid of them. Also, alot of sprays have warning statements about being eye irritant. The carbon literally absorbs and eliminates the odors and works for a long time. I use this product everywhere including car(smoke and pet smells), storage, closets, my fridge and also under sinks, near trash and have friends that use it on cat litter box and also diaper pails - it's that good. I really recommend it. You can buy it in kitchen gadget sections in stores like walmart and linens and things. I also think camping world sells it. Someone else even said available in England. Definitely worth trying

Baking soda actually does have yeast like properties. Find yourself a recipe for Irish Soda Bread. There is no yeast used at all, just baking soda.

yes baking soda and baking powder are both used for baking, but they are not interchangable in baking, you cannot subsitute one for the other. baking soda and baking powder are leavening agents they make sure the product bakes and rises properly. baking soda helps the poducts rise, it needs acidity to od this baking powder is made from baking soda but is double reacting and needs heat to do so

You can not substitute one for the other in a recipe. Baking powder contains baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) plus other things.
