How long have you been taking the ranitidine? Does your doctor know?
If you have been taking it for more than 2 weeks and you still have symptoms then you must go and have a chat with your GP.
In the meantime, Gaviscon will help as it forms a layer on top of the stomach contents. I would advise against taking Rennies or any 'antacid' tablets at the same time as the ranitidine.
So........If the ranitidine isn't working then add in the gaviscon. If after 2 weeks you still have symptoms then make an appointment to see your GP as soon as possible. He/she may put you on more effective treatment (omeprazole or lansoprazole) and send you for any tests they may think are appropriate.
Most of us suffer from heartburn and indigestion at some point in our lives but when it goes on for a long time it is best to have a word with your GP.
Good luck.

You need to see a Gastroenterologist if it's been going on for too long. Acid reflux can damage the lining of the esophagus causing a condition know as Barretts esophagus. It is a precancerous condition. Don't screw around with this

The question should be, it the torch telling the truth? or opinion? That's one of the main problems with your side pushing science. We aren't one bit afraid of Science, Science that is unbiased, and accurate. But regretfully there's not much of that anymore. When you start with the premise that your foundation is fact, when in fact, it has not been proven, but far from it, Then you disregard anything that does not line up with your 'fact'. Remember in the 20's and 30's all great thinkers, Einstein included, believed whole heartily that the universe had always been, It took Hubble to prove them wrong.

Hi there,
I used to take several different medications for acid but I found Pariet (rabeprazole) to be the most effective and I didn't have any side effects so would recommend giving it a try. :-)
Best wishes,

An old fashioned remedy for indigestion is: 1 teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda with half a glass of water. Drink straight down. Within 15 minutes it should have worked.

My fiancee' uses a couple of things. Hot water with fresh lemon juice squeezed in it, will help with acid reflux or gerd...when he gets really bad that helps. Chamomile tea also works well as does licorice root.
Good luck it's miserable.
