When you make cookie dough, you use raw eggs. Salmonella is a digestive illness that can occur when you eat raw cookie dough, though frankly people eat raw dough all the time and do not report anything other than a sheepishly happy grin on their faces for the most part. Now and then someone gets sick. So to be on the safe side, bake those babies before you eat them.

The danger with raw eggs is generally salmonella, but there are lots of other nasty bugs that can be carried too. And some of the bugs are antibiotic-resistant, which is very scary. Tapeworms are usually spread by contact with domestic animal feces or dogs that have become hosts (this is why it's important to have new dogs wormed!)

So, if you like most people love eating it raw or want to put it in ice cream, a safer option is to use a pasteurized egg replacer or use a recipe like this one (http://www.wikihow.com/Make-Cookie-Dough-for-Eating) that doesn't contain eggs at all.

However, I have to admit that on ocassion I have sneaked a bite or two from the dough bowl, despite my foodservice training - I get eggs from my MIL, so I know exactly where they come from and how they've been treated since they left the chicken. Most people don't have this luxury, though. But I NEVER ate uncooked egg, even runny yolk fried eggs, while I was pregnant or trying to get pregnant, since a lot of foodborne illnesses are at best harmful, at worst fatal to a developing fetus.

Hope this helps a bit.

Eggs don't cause tapeworms. Tapeworms are parasites that come from a variety of sources and you're no more likely to get any kind of parasite from an egg than you are from any other food. Raw eggs can cause salmonella, a bacteria that can lead to a slight case of salmonella poisoning which usually results in some form of stomach upset, but isn't usually serious. However, bodybuilders drink raw eggs and rarely have problems. Cookie dough is safe to eat in small quantities, and probably will not hurt you as far as the raw eggs go!

They (the food police) say you're not supposed to, but I do all the time. Your chances of getting sick from raw eggs are slim. If you're a raw cookis dough fanatic, you might want to try the store bought kind like Pillsbury becasue the eggs used in the dough have been pasturized.

I do anyways....just cause I like living dangerously! ;) It's just yummy!! Seriously, you're not supposed to because of the Raw and uncooked egg...but I do anyway! ;) The US has everything ultra sterilized & "US grade "A'" or "FDA approved" that I doubt you would get tape worms from the raw eggs. BUT NO, normally you don't eat the cookie dough. You can get e.coli and all sorts of other nasty bachterias.

I dont think its because of worms.. the raw eggs could cause salmonella.

I wouldn't worry about that unless the dough has been sitting out with flies or bugs in the room.
