The procedure itself isnt really too painful, just uncomforable.
Afterwards though your mouth is very sore!!
Your going to need to take some advil or some type of pain reliever (they will prb tell you that at the orth)
The whole thing is worth it, but you will be VERY happy when you get them off!!
Every time you go in there to get them tightened, your mouth gets sore afterwards, not as sore as the first time, but still vry uncomfortable.
Good luck with it though, your teeth will be beautiful afterwards <3

from my own personal experience ( got the things about 3 months ago) they dont hurt at all, and you have nothing to worry about.
the actual procedure is basically just putting a little bit of "paste" on each tooth, then glueing a bit of metal onto each tooth ( it breaks down with a special chemical they use at the end of treatment). they then threddle a wire through and voila!
the only problems i've had, is initially when they are first put on, and when you get them tightened every once and awhile, your teeth might become a little sore when you chew hard-foods, but you're not supposed to eat hard things anyway in case you damage your brace, sometimes the wire can dig into the side of your gum a little, but if you're worried about that, ask the orthodontist for some orthopedic wax to stick onto the end ( after wearing it for about 2 minutes you'll be able to tell if you need any).
other than those things ( which are really just small irritances.. no popcorn.. :( ) there is absolutley nothing to worry about, the worst part of the whole procedure is the taste of the glue-like chemical they use ( which tastes the same as the mould-stuff they use on your teeth a month or two earlier).

Hey, so your getting braces? Well don't be scared. I have had braces for the past year and a half. The procedure doesn't hurt at all (the brackets are just glued on). However after you have had braces for the first couple of hours your mouth might get sore. I would suggest you going out and buying plenty of : soup, mashed potatoes, juice, and other relatively soft food that you like. That is what i did and it really helped! So i hope getting your braces goes well.

It doesn't hurt at all to get them put on, they just glue them on. When they are on, they might hurt from the braces rubbing against the inside of your mouth, but just make sure you get wax from the dentist to help you with that. Your teeth might also be tender in the begining and everytime you get your braces tightened but just take some painkillers. Overall, it's not that bad, no worries and after the braces are off you will be so glad to have a lovely smile.

Think of your braceslike contacts or new shoes.. You have to get used to them. Take whatever you take for a headache before you go, and again in 4 hours all day. Some of bracess is in your head- if you think your going to hurt you do. Everyone is different but most people just get sore- not pain and agony, and they make your lip feel lumpy. You need to soften your diet. Drink slushes and milkshakes, it's like putting cold on sore spot, feels good! You can compare the brackets going on to painting your fingernails, weird in the mouth but not painful. Tastes funny but again you'll live and they don't try to drown you in it. New shoes can be a sore foot for a day two, but you get used to them quickly. Do not be afraid, it is so simple. You can always take the headache stuff before each appointment for the wire changes, usually you are sore by supper and better by the next day. Not dying just sore. Relax, beautiful teeth are awonderful gift from your parents. Your smile with be with you for the rest of your life. The diet that goes with them is nothing hard or crunchy If you hear crunch when you eat it it's too hard. Do pringles, not Doritos, eat ice cream not skittles. If you must have hard candy put it in a t towel and hit it with a hammer. DO not bite into anything everything must be cut up. If you go to subway you can't just pick it up and eat it. No chewing ice, taffy, corn nuts, beef jerky, candy canes etc. You'll love your new teeth when they are done.

I HATE to freak people who are scared out, but yes, it doesn hurt badly for a couple of days =( Eating ice cream and drinking soup without chunks REALLY helps. I hope I helped!! , Just think of the BEAUTIFUL teeth your going to have!

In the begining it might hurt because there is something on your teeth that wasn't there before but the pain will go away, take some Asprin to help with the pain if needed...but before you know it you won't notice them, just keep your teeth clean and watch what you eat...no sticky food or too hard of food cause you can knock out a bracket...I did that very often but just be prepared for it. Soon they will be off and you will be happy.

First of all-think of the rewards-beautiful smile.
They will hurt after you leave the ord. office.
Try to take some aspirin. If they bother your
mouth the ord. can give you tips and ask for
wax for mouth sores. It will get easier day by
day. Watch what you eat-no taffy, gum, Tootsie
rolls, etc sticky stuff. Brush often because food
tends to get stuck. Be very brave and it pays off
in the long run. I used to write down my questions
and ask the ord. at the visit. Good luck and you
will do fine with a positive attitude.

you mean when they put in braces for the first time???
then no, it doesn't hurt. but it will hurt the second day until the end of the week maybe. take Advil or Tylenol and stick to soft foods that require little to no chewing. here is a link:
http://archwired.com/soft_foods_category.htm
when you get your braces tightened, it will hurt a bit, but not as long as when you actually get them in. they will only hurt for 2-3 days maybe if you're lucky. here is a great website for tips about braces:
http://www.archwired.com/3_-_go_on.htm...
at the very bottom after you read it, click on
"next... living with braces"
another website is this one. you can use it to see colors you would like to have on your braces.

BEST OF LUCK :-)

The actual procedure doesn't hurt at all. Having them on, thats another story. Don't worry, its not too bad. Remember, they ARE moving your teeth around. It doesn't happen without a little aching. Its not heavy pain, more of a dull ache. Don't worry, you'll get through it. Just think to yourself, it will all be worth it in the end when you're smiling away.
