Please do not breed untill the female is at least 2 years old. Having a litter before she is fully grown could cause serious damage- especially in smaller dogs.

The male will be ready and willing now, but that does not mean he is ready to be worked. The female can come into season anywhere between 6-12 months. I would not advise breeding her on her first season, as she is so young.
Why would you want to breed them anyway, there are so many unwanted dogs in rehoming centres, or being destroyed as they cannot find a home, and you want to add more dogs to the problem!

bitchs normally come into season or (in heat) between the ages of 5/6 months but it all depends on the dog itself, but you will have a good idea if her vulva starts to become puffed, keep an eye on her for that, and also she will start cleaning her back end a lot. hope this helps..
she is still to young to mate, and so is your dog, he will be too immature, wait until her next season, she is too small inside, and may end up havin a caersarian which will cost you roughly £800 for the vet fees. hope this helps.x

unless you are showing your dogs, and are having them evaluated as breeding quality, and unless you have had all appropriate health clearances ( done at age 2 ) spay and neuter these dogs... breeding requires EXTENSIVE research on genetic problems , it would take you months to find an appropriate match to mate two dogs.. you don't just breed two dogs together,,, you will need to draw up puppy contracts, get deposits from pre-screened owners before breeding... guarantee the genetic health of all pups for life ( after all , you did your homework and wanted to bring this litter into the world YOU are Responsible ) i really do not think you are ready to be a breeder.... why don't you start by becoming a dog show exhibitor and see where you go from there........if not SPAY and NEUTER NOW

Hi..my westie had her first heat at 10 months of age. Please do not let her have pups until she is 2 years old for health reasons. The male can do it now, but may not show interest yet. I bet your westies are cute. Good luck!

Bitches normally have their first 'heat' anywhere from 6 months to a year. And then about every 4-6 months thereafter. As for the Stud, he should be able to successfully copulate at 6-8 months, though as a Breeder myself, I strongly suggest to wait until after 10 months for the Male for fear of a newly arrising problem of Prostate Cancer in canines.
And to Sophy down there... They asked a general question not for a lesson on your opinions. Although I do agree in (in most cases) and have to conform to alteration regulations, it is still a choice for owners.

I would wait until her 2nd heat to breed them.... his sperm will be more mature and her body will be more ready then too..
She will come into first heat at round 6-7 mts of age.... then every 6 months after that!
He CAN breed at a young age....6-8 months and will be fertile... but usually his sperm count is low (so only a couple of pups will be produced)

i think you should normally let the ***** have her first season, then any season after that they are ok to have puppies. then i think if you dont want them to have a litter you should have them spayed, i have learnt this to my cost, we didn't have my lovely black lab spayed and she had a few phantom pregnancies and has ended up with mammory cancer, and also had to have her womb removed, thankfully she is now ok but in future if i have another ***** she will have a litter or be spayed, good luck

She will have her season any time from now on.The average is 6 months old but could be earlier or later.
He could already be fertile but may not be till he's 9 months old.
