My Canon EOS Rebel 2000 has fully charged batteries, but once the film's loaded it says the battery's dead

I just got this camera, and before I loaded any film in it I was playing around with it and it was working fine - the battery indicator was that the battery was fine and charged. Then, when we put the roll of film in, it loaded it and wound on, but then immediately said the battery was dead. We did this twice, and the batteries worked in between the two tries and before the first try. This also happened to my sister's camera (same model, but she just got a new one) so I'm thinking it has to be a common problem. Any suggestions would be wonderful.

If your sister was able to get a new camera in replace, I would exchange yours now.
