It's a Spanish spelling of the Italian word "ciao." It's a casual way to say goodbye.

Hi!
It means Good-bye.

The correct way of saying it is "CHAO". The word comes from the italian "CIAO", which is pronounced the same.

"Chau" is used by many Spanish speakers as, it could be said, as a kind of slang. Some don't like it. It doesn't sound refined at all.

I remember a radio personality that used it at the end of her show. I hated it! :-P
However, be at ease. It exists and it is used. I don't think is in the dictionary, though... at least not yet.

Goodluck!

Are you perhaps referring to "ciao" in Itallian (it sounds a lot like Spanish in some respects)? If that's what you've been hearing, it means "goodbye."

It's the Spanish spelling of the Italian goodbye, "Ciao".

In German it's "Tschao".

I think you mean ciao. That's either Spanish or Italian, something like that.
