Meaning, do you think its weird to create invitations and send them out to family and friends so that they can see me before i go to prom?

I think that a little pre party is a cute idea.
Last year when my husband was in the hospital for heart surgery my nephew stopped by the hospital with his girlfriend for a short visit so that my husband and I could see them in their prom clothes.
It was such a nice thing to do. We loved it.

It could be done tactfully. Have your family just invite people over for dinner with YOU not being the main purpose of the invite. Your family could say they want to make it an all around special day for the whole family. The guests could arrive for a drink and appetizers...see you all dressed up and leave with your date...then the guests and your family have dinner after you've gone.

I've never heard of this done before. I just let my family see the pictures of prom afterwards, and whom happens to be at the house when i'm in my dress...they got to see me.

It's going a little overboard. Your mom can take pictures and you can e-mail them to people. No need to make a formal event out of your pre-prom evening. It's not like it's your wedding.

I don't think it's tacky, but I have never heard of anyone doing that before. Your family may get a kick out of it! But if it were me, I would just have my parents take some pictures and then show them to people if they want to see them.

My own prom date wasn't too happy just posing for pictures before leaving for the dance. I for one don't think your date's going to enjoy this.

sure, maybe invite a small group of people over for pre-prom appetizers, or snacks, or something.

since your family is paying for your prom expenses, let them have their day.
