Based upon my close friend's family, a young adult, virgin girl from a religious family is raped and although distraught, one of her concerns is that she won't be able to give herself away to a husband.
I'm trying to stay out of it, but her guardian is trying to console her that when she finds someone, being virginal or not will drain away because the love and emotion will be there and it will feel like nothing before/'virginity'.
I'm aware myself that sex with someone you love is far greater than any other kind, but we all consider losing our virginity the biological process of penetrative sex.
Long story short: Can virginity be psychological, or is it purely and only biological?

Hi !!!!
This is a very interesting question!!!!! And unique!!!
I'm so sorry to know what happend to your friend, but that is the past!!! Now is another story. My answer to that question is as interesting as the question itself!!
Is my belive that it could be both!!! Psychological bu also biological.
We all know about the biological aspect of virginity. And from the religious ponit of view, it could be extremely serious as devastating!!!! Which in my opinion, is the sinonimum of psychological abuse, tremendous stress that the society had put upon woman!!! Don't get me wrong I'm a Christian, and understand the priciples of this, but what it's done it's done , and there si no need to rub it!!!
Now speaking about the psychological point of view, a woman actually can be a virgin "AGAIN"!!!! Yes!!! Even though with an experience like that!!! Since it was not her choice to have the sexual encounter the first time, is in her right as an individual, to proclaim herself to be a virging, due to the fact that she haven't experience a sexual encounter, which is consentual between her and the person she chosses.
If this happens it will be the first time for her to experience, and enjoy there for "psychologically" speaking she is a virgin.
Add to that, and considering the amount of time spend from the first sexual (rape) encounter to the actual consentual one, if is even months apart, this girl will be considered still to be a virgin.
I hope that my answer help in some way.
GOD BLESS YOU & HAPPY LIFE
A.Z.

The same thing happened to me when I was 14. It took a lot of time and others' support, but this is pretty much the conclusion I came to:
Even though my virginity was gone, I had not willingly given it to him. Though biologically it was not there anymore, I became strong enough to think of myself as a virgin still, because the act had not been welcomed. If you willingly give yourself to someone for the first time, then I believe that is when your virginity is truly lost.
Long story short, I believe it can be psychological. I hope your friend recovers well. No one should have to go through that, but I'm glad she has people who care about her to help her through it.

It's actually both if you take the time to think about it. Biologically, once the Hyman is broken, the virginity is gone, but when two people make love, there is a special bond, and special chemical exchange between just those two people.
Support her and tell her that while she is physically not a virgin, when she gives herself to the one she loves, that special moment will make it all worth it. She will share something very special between them and go on with their lives.

I am an older male virgin. Your female friend is still a virgin 1000%. Remember to tell her that virginity is a choice. When she was raped she had no choice so therefore her virginity is still intact and that gift will be even more precious this time because she went through the horror of being raped and still decided to save it for her soulmate. Tell her she is still a virgin and she should be so proud of herself for making it through that ordeal:)

Virginity is like guilt--two of the most worthless commodities available. They are like the human appendix--they serve no purpose and provide no benefit. It is psychological with a heavy dose of religion tacked on.

it can be both.
depends on ur beliefs
if u feel that when the tissue in the vagina is broke by the penis, then ur no longer a virgin, then its physical
but if u feel when u give it to someone, voluntarily, who u truley love then its biological
