My hair used to be poofy, too. Use a conditioner or a leave in conditioner. Perms usually make them more poofy. Buy a nice sraightener, like the Remington Wet to Dry. Order online, or at store. It costs about $25, but it's worth it!
Blow dry your hair, or oil it if its too dry. Hope this helps!

I have the same problem, I have found that new line by Sunsilk (the "get hair-epy!" commercial) works super well! I bought the anti-poof shampoo and conditioner and even if I let my hair air dry it's very managable and soft! Its cheap, you can get it almost anywhere, and it works! Also if you are leaving it curly, I would use the Dove mousse for curl enhancing, this leaves your hair soft and touchable unlike most other gels I have tried and it smells good!

My hair is very thick and very poofy, i dont even know anyone who has wilder hair than me lol, anyways you need to use straightners and lots of conditioner after you shampoo it. Make sure you use heat defense spray before you use the straightners and get it cut and thinned. They can thin your hair which will take away a lot of the volume

Try SunSilk Anti-Poof shampoo and conditioner. The SunSilk products are very good and not expensive. I love them and everyone in my house uses them.
