One of the best websites I've found is www.gapyear.com, they have a whole section dedicated to finding travelmates and there are always loads of people looking for travel buddies on there (www.gapyear.com/travelmates).

If you're thinking of going to New Zealand at all, www.backpackerboard.co.nz also has a section for people who are looking for travel buddies.

Hope that helps!

the best way is to set off and pick them up as you go, I wa 50 when i first went backpacking. slept with all kinds of people. and races, mutual company, and had a realy good time.
slept wth two young ladies on the banks of the dead sea, did tel-a-viv to cairo with six people under 20. all single and each one was on his or her own, always slept together in one room it was a wonder full experiance. its a bit lonely on yer own. especially in the deserts, and people who do not speak the same language, yep I been all over and always picked up a buddy, age doesn't matter, its being on the same wavelength that does, when i went to petra I met a lady who was 74 that wanted to do the same thing. and found Jordan a bit dounting being on her own, she was ready to leave without seeing the things that she went there for. so we did them together, so get going and enjoy it.
