Not so much diseases as it impairs your ability to think logically. A heavy marijuana user is unable to do heavy thinking or complex tasks. They can do simple, repetitive tasks and manual labor, but they soon lose the ambition to do anything at all. They spend their time thinking about that next joint.

Alcohol also impairs your ability to do complex tasks, but the deterioration is much slower and less obvious if the person comes to work sober. Over time chronic drinking will make you dumber. It's a chemical change in the brain.
