does anyone know of any good uses of the ball to do this

The exercise ball may help increase muscle, but it will not shed away the fat located in your oblique area. The only way to lose fat from specific areas is by losing fat everywhere. Spot reduction is a myth.

Sit on top of the ball and do regular sit-ups. Then let your legs hang toward the right, but keep doing sit-ups in the middle. Switch to other side. This is working out those love handles, shaping your waist.

working a specific part of your body to lose bodyfat is a myth, bodyfat is lost by doing cardio activity such as walking running, jogging or cycling. manipulating your diet to burn slightly more calories than you are consuming along with regular cardio activity will solve your problems.
