Will you really know which dress is "THE" dress? If so, how? Also, how much are alterations for a dress that is too long? The dress I like has a train that is about three feet out from me. The detail allows it to be taken up the 3 inches all the way around that it would need to be. I just have no clue how much alterations would be on a wedding dress if it needs taken up ALL the way around. Also, I am having a nice wedding ceremony and reception in a hotel ballroom. Should I go with a clean, sleek look or a wow dress (detailed)? Any information would be greatly appreciated. (The dress I like is $260 at Cargo Largo, but I could get one from David's Bridal.)

All wedding dresses have a wow factor when the bride feels beautiful. so its more about your shape and your likes than it is anything else. You need to feel like a queen----the dress that makes you giddy about getting married is the right dress---when you try them on, dont put on a veil... a veil changes everything and makes them all look and feel amazing----try out veils after you find THE dress. Most dresses are ordered to length from your neck to your ankles...but if its off the rack, be sure to get an estimate for the alterations....a hem is often around $100. Good Luck...

You will know when you have "the" dress on you, when you are trying on a dress and couldn't imagine yourself in anything else. You will feel like a princess. Alterations, unfortunately, are very costly. You should call different tailors to get prices. I personally suggest finding a dress that doesn't need to be altered. Planning a wedding is stressfull enough without having to worry about whether or not the alterations will affect how your dress will look. Where you are having your reception at shouldn't have too much of an impact on the dress that you pick. Remember you have to dance in your dress. So you might want to make sure you have a detachable train, and make sure that you are not tripping all over your own dress. Make sure that you have plenty of room to move your arms as well. Good luck, and congratulations!

If your only paying 260 for your dress best to leave the alterations, its usually cost around 100 dollars. Try going into a few bridal stores and ask them on how much they are willing to do the alterations. Than get it done if its going to less than 100 dollars which is a good deal. You will know if its the perfect dress for you, when you see no flaws in the dress and when wearing it your speachless for words. I would go for the wow dress, just because this is a huge day, a day that you are suspose to be all dressed up..not many days give you that option. So go all out and dress like a princess.
Congratulations!

You will know when you find "the" dress. I almost bought 5 different dresses and I would have the worst thoughts about them. I kept trying to see myself in it on my wedding day and I just couldnt. When I found the right one...there was NOTHING wrong with it. It was my dream dress. Although, it was something that I thought I would never like. What do you feel comfortable in? A detailed dress or a sleek dress? I think it just depends on the feel you want for your reception. Get the dress that you will look at in 30 years and still be totally in love with.

Alterations can be very expensive in urban areas, at least! Do yourself a favor and don't go $$$ nuts over a wedding gown. I think you're being sensible in keeping the price reasonable, and there's nothing wrong with David's! I've seen some wonderful dresses there. Unfortunately my daughter had a large bridal party and they didn't have enough of the same dress, but it would have saved the girls some big bucks! My daughter was lucky enough to fit into a closeout at a local bridal shop, and she was a beautiful bride!

I just went for alterations today. Because my dress is heavily beaded and has a lace overlay, my alterations are $500!!! This would not cost as much for a simple satin dress without the lace and beading. The reason the cost is so high, all the beads will have to be removed and replaced to alter it. Something you may want to consider when buying a dress if money is an issue.

The wow factor is always best, as it is your day and you want you husband to remember it. You will know the dress the minute you try it on. I remember shopping for mine and I was getting so discouraged and then my mother brought a dress into the fitting room and I hated it. It looked like crap on the hanger and I didn't want to try it on. My mom insisted and I was too tired to argue - so I put it on and wow it was the one!! Didn't need any alterations!

Normally alterations come with the price of the dress. If you love the dress, then get it to fit the way you like it - it is your day. Good luck and congratulations!!

I'm clumsy, so I wanted a dress with NO train at all... It was pretty hard to find one, but when I did I fell in love with it. Now, two years later, I wish I'd picked something fancier. I've never met a bride that didn't love her dress, and then later on didn't wish she'd picked something a little different. But yeah, you're gonna try on a dress and fall in love.

I wore my mom's. I had the back cut out, piecing put on the bottom and a new veil. It meant the world to her.

That being said.....If you like it, wear it. If it makes you look good, buy it. Just about every wedding dress will need alterations. AND....it's your wedding, you wear whatever you want, honey!
