A typical religion does not recognize the grace of God.
Instead of coming to god with nothing and accepting an unmerited favor of salvation through grace, the religion attempts to appease God and earn salvation through sacraments and works.

I don't know what a "typical religion" is, honestly. Do you mean most popular?
I do know that most "religions" have more to do with man's ideas than God's spirit. Read Acts 2:38 and 39 for the basic salvation message in the New Testament. And St. John 14 for a glimpse into what Jesus feels for those who love him.

They all promote values which are pretty common sense and claim a deep spiritual revelation for them (even Buddhism, think of its theme of moderation in all things). Most foster feelings of distrust or outright hatred of other faiths. Most include some degree of intolerance or bigotry.

ALL of them require you to believe in something fundamentallyl unbelievable. That's what the Faith part is all about.
