I joined under a reserve program and my only active duty was Electronics school and boot camp. The remainder of my enlistment was reserve duty in Long Beach. I don't get VA benefits, but I am trying to get a civil service job and they add 10 points to my test score if I am a vet.

you need a minimum of 180 CONSECUTIVE days of active duty Military to qualify as a Veteran in a lot of areas. I know people who have gone 24 years in the Army Reserve and technical they are not a "Veteran" its BS I know, but those are the rules. just look at the 214 how many active duty days does it have you down for? it will be on the upper right, it has a breakdown of your active time.

And above all else for Gods sake DO NOT "just go ahead and say you are a vet" as the first answer freeloader would have you believe.

Check with the local VA rep at the courthouse. I 'm believe it only takes 180 days of active duty to qualify for VA benefits.

Determine if you served more than 180 days active duty. If yes, you are eligible for points. It will say on your DD214
